Low-dimensional nanostructures are expected to have vast number of applications in the future. Particularly large amount of research has been invested in the atomthick carbon membrane called graphene, which has become popular due to its unique electronic and mechanical properties. This thesis presents studies of the mechanical and electromechanical properties of several different types of graphene nanostructures. In addition, short detours are performed in order to study the elasticity of gold nanostructures and topology effects in graphene nanoribbons. Valkohäntäkauris (Odocoileus virginianus) on Yhdysvalloista Suomeen tuotu vieraslaji. Kauriiden ja autojen yhteentörmäykset ovat lisääntyneet kauriiden määrän kasvaessa. Kolareiden ja muiden kauriista aiheutuvien haittojen vähentämiseksi kannan kokoa säädellään metsästämällä. Vuosittaisten metsästyslupien määrä päätetään kannan koon arvioiden perusteella. Tässä työssä esitellään uusi tapa arvioida Suomen valkohäntäkauriiden kantaa. Vuosittain metsästettyjen valkohäntäkauriiden lukumäärät tunnetaan metsästäjien ilmoitusten perusteella. Zhang esittelee väitöskirjassaan uuden kuormanjakomekanismin, jolla voidaan muodostaa eriteltyjä palveluita klusteripohjaisissa palvelimissa. Mekanismin toimintaa on simuloitu erilaisissa tilanteissa ja se toimii hyvin myös korkeasti kuormitetuissa palvelimissa. This work describes the deployment of the current fluid flow simulation software, Star-CCM+, at Valtra Inc. The text also gives a brief introduction to computational fluid dynamics and its role in the product development process for an engineer at the company. Two computational test cases are also described. A simpler case of the simulation of an engine air intake channel flow is shown first. The results show better agreement with the measured values than the outsourced simulation that was used as a reference.
