ObjectiveTo describe the ophthalmological follow up and cardiologists-nephrologists’ involvements in diabetic patients managed by GPs or diabetologists.MethodsTransversal and observational survey conducted in 2009, by 1112 GPs and 188 specialists.Results2577 diabetic patients (T1D or T2D) have been included; 63% were males, and mean age was 62 years. Mean diabetes duration was 10 years. Most of them were hypertensive (72%), 68% had a dyslipidemia and 30% a non proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Abstract Natural products and synthetic analogs have drawn much attention as potential therapeutical drugs to treat metabolic syndrome. We reviewed the underlying mechanisms of 32 natural products and analogs with potential pharmacological effects in vitro, and especially in rodent models and/or patients, that usually act on the PPAR pathway, along with other molecular targets. Hypertriglyceridemia is frequent in diabetic and obese subjects, who are at increased risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Increased triglycerides (TG) are a hallmark of atherogenic dyslipidemia, representing a marker of atherogenic small dense low-density lipoproteins (sdlDL). Importantly, non-fasting/postprandial TG measurements tend to be emphasized in clinical practice for the prediction of CVD, and TG-lowering agents (primarily fibrates) have a beneficial effect on atherogenic dyslipidemia, reducing TG-rich particles and ultimately lowering the production of sdlDL. Moment‐based boundary conditions for straight on‐grid boundaries in three‐dimensional lattice Boltzmann simulations

In this article, moment‐based boundary conditions for the lattice Boltzmann method are extended to three dimensions. Boundary conditions for velocity and pressure are explicitly derived for straight on‐grid boundaries for the D3Q19 lattice. The method is compared against the bounce‐back scheme using both single and two relaxation time collision schemes. The method is verified using classical benchmark test cases. The results show very good agreement with the data found in the literature. Transmission of torque at the nanoscale

In macroscopic mechanical devices torque is transmitted through gearwheels and clutches. In the construction of devices at the nanoscale, torque and its transmission through soft materials will be a key component. However, this regime is dominated by thermal fluctuations leading to dissipation. Here we demonstrate the principle of torque transmission for a disc-like colloidal assembly exhibiting clutch-like behaviour, driven by $27$ particles in optical traps. On the wave interaction in a charged fluid with Hall and ion slip-currents

The evolution of non linear small perturbations in a charged fluid with generalized Ohm's law is considered, pointing out the possibility of effects due to interaction between different waves. Following the perturbative reductive methods, some phase functions for studying interaction are introduced. A suitable hypothesis on their evolution permits us to prove that the amplitudes of the first order perturbation obey Burgers-like equations, in which the dissipative terms are not influenced by the Hall effect.
The parameter identification in the Stokes system with threshold slip boundary conditions

The paper is devoted to an identification of the slip bound function g in the Stokes system with threshold slip boundary conditions assuming that g depends on the tangential velocity 𝑢𝜏 . To this end the optimal control approach is used. To remove its nonsmoothness we use a regularized form of the slip conditions in the state problem. The mutual relation between solutions to the original optimization problem and the problems with regularized states is analyzed. The paper is completed by numerical experiments. peerReviewed
Numerical study of the primitive equations in the small viscosity regime

In this paper we study the flow dynamics governed by the primitive equations in the small viscosity regime. We consider an initial setup consisting on two dipolar structures interacting with a no slip boundary at the bottom of the domain. The generated boundary layer is analyzed in terms of the complex singularities of the horizontal pressure gradient and of the vorticity generated at the boundary. The presence of complex singularities is correlated with the appearance of secondary recirculation regions. Two viscosity regimes, with different qualitative properties, can be distinguished in the flow dynamics.
