2018

Abstract Although there is a growing interest in social responsibility in research as well as in practice, the majority of studies on corporate social responsibility do not explicitly investigate operations management issues when adopting socially responsible practices under the “people” pillar of sustainability. This paper, dealing with the theme of social responsibility in operations management, aims at clarifying the complex relationship between socially responsible product/service and the operations of the company. The empirical context of the study is the sport industry, where the attention to social issues is well established. We used a mixed theoretical-empirical approach to develop …

What Is Different about the Profile of the Social Entrepreneur?

2015

In recent years, the term social entrepreneur has become increasingly common in academic and business circles. Social entrepreneurs engage in a variety of activities, but always with the intention of solving social problems. Social entrepreneurs are not merely people who perform acts of charity; they have an evident desire to improve social well-being and develop projects with long-term vision. The creation of sustainable social value is a key characteristic that differentiates them from well-meaning individuals who simply engage in charitable works. There are, however, significant gaps in our understanding of social entrepreneurs and few empirical studies on the subject. This present study…

Enhancing Joined-Up Government and Outcome-Based Performance Management through System Dynamics Modelling to Deal with Wicked Problems: the Case of S…

2015

The paper by Auping et al. (2015) focuses on the topic of societal ‘ageing’, that is, ‘a population process, caused by declining fertility and mortality rates, which manifests itself in the growing number of older persons in society’ (Huber, 2005). In terms of public policy and finance, the relevance of …

Institutional Issues About Social Entrepreneurship

2021

This chapter summarizes the main conclusions of this part of the book. In doing so, it explains the value that social ventures add to their contexts. Revisiting each one of the chapters of the macro perspective addressed in the second section of the book, social entrepreneurship is seen as a way to solve social problems. By way of this problem-solving, social ventures present legitimacy issues. However, once the difficulties are overcome, it is important to spread the values and principles that guide social entrepreneurship. The last part of this chapter is dedicated to limitations and future research in acquiring the macro approach.
