Cost-effectiveness of prison system development - comparison of the European countries

The possibility to achieve successful resocialization of former prisoners back into society is an ongoing public debate, making it challenging for policymakers to implement prisoner rehabilitation programs capable of maintaining the public safety while allocating public funds in the most efficient way. The main aim of this study is to examine what is necessary for an investment in prison system development to be justified. The hypothesis of this study suggests that such investment can be cost-effective by reducing crime and recidivism rates in the long term by ensuring proper rehabilitation of prisoners. The present article aims to provide an insight into the life story of a computer-game addicted adolescent. Here, the relationship between the symptom game addiction, the family as a reference framework, the game's characteristics, as well as the subjective emotional state of the adolescent are of particular interest. An emphasis is also laid on the psychodynamically approached question of the impact of infantile and current relationship experiences (both within a family environment as well as with peers) on personal development. The objective of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the ESPA29 Parental Socialization Scale (Musitu & Garcia, 2001). This scale allows measuring parental styles - authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and negligent - by means of two independent dimensions of parental conduct extracted from parents' use of different socialization practices. Using a sample of 2.105 Brazilian adolescents from 10 to 18 years old, the structure of two factors that define the scale - Acceptance/Implication and Strictness/Imposition - has been replicated using an exploratory factorial analysis. Traditionally, family socialization has been conceptualized as an important correlate of psychological well-being and a basic theoretical construct for explaining adjusted and adaptive behaviors into society. The assessment of the socialization process requires of a theoretical perspective that conceptualizes how parents can influence their children. Based on the classic two-dimensional model of socialization, with the dimensions of acceptance/involvement and strictness/imposition, four parenting styles were defined: indulgent, authoritative, neglectful and authoritarian. The ESPA29 scale is suitable for evaluation of family socialization.
