Changes of several metabolic parameters of soya inoculated with phytopathogens at application nanochelates

2022

n greenhouse experiments changes in several metabolic parameters soybeans plants after inoculation by P. savastanoi pv. glycinea 9190, X. axonopodis pv. glycines 9192, BCMV, A. laidlawii on background pre-treatment by nanochelates (NHs) of V, Ge, Cu, Mo have been shown. The phenolic compounds content increased in leaves at inoculation by phytopathogens on background pre-treatment by NHs and without it. The content of H2O2 in leaves increased in variants: BCMV (+VNHs, GeNHs, CuNHs), 9192 (+VNHs, CuNHs), 9190 (+GeNHs, CuNHs), A. laidlawii+MoNHs. But it decreased in the variants: BCMV + MoNHs, A. laidlawii + VNHs, 9190 + VNHs, 9192 (+ GeNHs, CuNHs) compared to controls. The peroxidase activity…

Impact of Super-High Density Olive Orchard Management System on Soil Free-Living and Plant-Parasitic Nematodes in Central and South Italy

2022

The soil nematode community plays an important role in ecosystem services. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of Super-high density (SHD) olive orchards on the nematode community in five sites with different soils, climates, and cultivars. At each site, the SHD management system was compared to the adjacent olive orchard traditional (TRAD) system, in which the same soil management and phytosanitary measures were applied. Soil management was assessed by total organic carbon content (TOC), while the soil nematode community was evaluated using the nematode taxa abundances and soil nematode indicators. TOC was significantly decreased in the SHD olive orchard system compared to…

Comparison of oxidoreductive enzyme activities in three coal tar creosote-contaminated soils

2019

This study used laboratory experiments to compare the effects of coal tar creosote on the activity of oxidoreductive enzymes in sandy loam, loamy sand and sandy clay loam soils. Different amounts of coal tar creosote were added to soil samples as follows: 0 (control), 2, 10 or 50 g kg–1 dry matter. The activity of soil dehydrogenases (DHAs), o-diphenol oxidase (o-DPO), catalase (CAT), nitrate reductase (NR) and peroxidases (POX) was determined. Contamination of soil with coal tar creosote affected oxidoreductase activity. Oxidoreductive enzyme activity following soil contamination with coal tar creosote was in the following order: DHAs > CAT > NR > POX > o-DPO in…

The interactive effects of various nitrogen fertiliser formulations applied to urine patches on nitrous oxide emissions in grassland

2017

AbstractPasture-based livestock agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) nitrous oxide (N2O). Although a body of research is available on the effect of urine patch N or fertiliser N on N2O emissions, limited data is available on the effect of fertiliser N applied to patches of urinary N, which can cover up to a fifth of the yearly grazed area. This study investigated whether the sum of N2O emissions from urine and a range of N fertilisers, calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) or urea ± urease inhibitor ± nitrification inhibitor, applied alone (disaggregated and re-aggregated) approximated the N2O emission of urine and fertiliser N applied together (aggregated). Application of fertili…

Correspondence between theory and practice of a Beerkan infiltration experiment

2022

The Beerkan infiltration experiment is carried out by inserting the ring a short depth into the soil and establishing a positive head of water on the infiltration surface for at least a part of the run. Nevertheless, the data are analyzed by assuming a fully unconfined infiltration process (ring insertion depth, d = 0 cm) and a null ponded depth of water (H = 0 cm). The influence of ring insertion and ponded water on an infiltration process of 2 h sampled every minute was tested in this numerical investigation. Five soils varying from sand to silt loam, three ring radii (5–15 cm), and the Beerkan-specific range of values for both d and H (between 0 and 1 cm) were considered. The differences…

Soil quality - Method to directly extract DNA from Soil Samples. ISO/ DIS 11063

2010

DNA (deoxy ribonucleic acids) is an essential component of any living organisms coding for enzymes responsible for any biological activities. The study of DNA sequences from DNA sources extracted from different matrixes, by means of numerous molecular approaches, provides molecular markers that can be used to sharply distinguish and identify different organisms (bacteria, archaea and eucaryotes). Up to now, most of the studies aiming to develop microbial soil quality indicators applicable to complex environment, such as soil, were biased by the unculturability of many microorganisms and the lack of sensitivity of traditional microbiological methods. The recent development of numerous molecu…

Increasing Sustainability of Growing Media Constituents and Stand-Alone Substrates in Soilless Culture Systems

2020

Peat-free growing media constituents and stand-alone substrates are the basis for the economic and ecological efficiency of the soilless culture system. Nevertheless, divergence between the model and practice still exists, coming from large gaps in the knowledge of alternative organic materials and of their effects on crop performance. A more detailed understanding of these topics is necessary to increase the soilless culture management capacity. In this respect, this critical review collects research outcomes concerning the sustainability of soilless culture and growing media constituents and their impact on the environment. In particular, the review covers designated articles stressing th…

Minor Losses and Best Manifold Position in the Optimal Design of Paired Sloped Drip Laterals

2018

Arranging paired laterals so that two distribution pipes extend in opposite directions from a common manifold contributes to providing more uniform pressure to all laterals in the system, increasing water use and energy efficiency of micro-irrigation. Towards this end, by neglecting emitters’ minor losses, analytical procedures to design paired drip laterals laid on uniform slopes were introduced. More recently, it was shown that for an optimal paired sloped lateral design the best position of the manifold (BMP) equals 24%. In this paper, first the mentioned analytical procedure is extended to the case in which minor losses are considered. Second, by neglecting minor losses, a comparison in…
