Extreme overirradiance events in Norway: 1.6 suns measured close to 60°N

Abstract We report the most extreme overirradiance event of 1.6 kW/m 2 measured so far in Grimstad, southern Norway (latitude 58°20′), at altitude of only about 60 m a.s.l. Images of the sky conditions taken with a wide-dynamic-range camera suggest that this is not the ultimate value for our location, but that extremes as high as 1.7 kW/m 2 may be possible. The phenomenon was caused by strong forward scattering of sunlight within 3° around the solar disk in thin, broken altocumulus clouds. The normalized spectrum of sunlight during such extreme events is very similar to the normalized clear-sky spectrum measured at Air Mass 1.4 and irradiance of 1.0 kW/m 2 . Des cellules solaires extremely thin absorber (eta) ZnO/CdSe/CuSCN a base de nanofils de ZnO ont ete realisees avec succes en utilisant des techniques faciles d'acces de depot en solution et par voie electrochimique. Une couche constituee de nanofils de ZnO monocristallin de plusieurs microns de hauteur et de 100-200 nm de diametre a ete deposee sur un substrat de verre conducteur (SnO 2 :F) recouvert d'une couche de ZnO formee par pyrolyse de spray agissant comme couche electronique bloquante. Extremophilic taxa predominate in a microbial community of photovoltaic panels in a tropical region

ABSTRACT Photovoltaic panels can be colonized by a highly diverse microbial diversity, despite life-threatening conditions. Although they are distributed worldwide, the microorganisms living on their surfaces have never been profiled in tropical regions using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing and PICRUst metagenome prediction of functional content. In this work, we investigated photovoltaic panels from two cities in southeast Brazil, Sorocaba and Itatiba, using these bioinformatics approach. Innovative Compact Solar Air Conditioner based on Fixed and Cooled Adsorption Beds and Wet Heat Exchangers

Abstract In this work, a new all-in-one compact solar air conditioner concept is presented. The system is mainly based on a new DEC process which utilises fixed and cooled adsorption beds operating in a batch process and two wet heat exchangers. The proposed innovative adsorption bed is a fin and tube heat exchanger commonly used in the air conditioning sector, wherein the spaces between the fins are filled with silica gel grains. Heat to electricity conversion by cold carrier emissive energy harvesters

This paper suggests a method to convert heat to electricity by the use of devices called cold carrier emissive energy harvesters (cold carrier EEHs). The working principle of such converters is explained and theoretical power densities and efficiencies are calculated for ideal devices. Cold carrier EEHs are based on the same device structure as hot carrier solar cells, but works in an opposite way. Whereas a hot carrier solar cell receives net radiation from the sun and converts some of this radiative heat flow into electricity, a cold carrier EEH sustains a net outflux of radiation to the surroundings while converting some of the energy supplied to it into electricity. Application of solar energy to seawater desalination in a pilot system based on vacuum multi-effect membrane distillation

Abstract The evaluation of a novel solar seawater desalination system implemented at the University of Almeria (Spain) is presented. It integrates a solar thermal field based on static collectors and a thermal desalination system based on the vacuum multi-effect membrane distillation technology. The distillation unit has a particular innovation to increase its thermal performance, using a seawater flow to condense the steam and preheat the feed.
