Determination of type A and type B trichothecenes in paprika and chili pepper using LC-triple quadrupole-MS and GC-ECD.

2011

There is a need to develop sensitive and accurate analytical methods for determining deoxynivalenol (DON), HT-2 toxin and T-2 toxin in paprika to properly assess the relevant risk of human exposure. An optimized analytical method for determination of HT-2 toxin and T-2 toxin using capillary gas chromatography with electron capture detection and another method for determination of DON by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry in paprika was developed. The method for determination of HT-2 toxin and T-2 toxin that gave the best recoveries involved extraction of the sample with acetonitrile-water (84:16, v/v), clean-up by solid-phase extraction on a cartridge made of different sorbent material…

Determination of the new psychoactive substance dichloropane in saliva by microextraction by packed sorbent – Ion mobility spectrometry

2018

Abstract A simple procedure based on microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) has been proposed for the extraction of dichloropane in oral fluids and its determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). Extraction conditions such as type of sorbent (octyl and octadecyl silica), sample pH, number of sample loadings, and elution volume were evaluated to obtain the most appropriate values. Dichloropane was extracted from saliva samples using C8 MEPS, loading with 100 μL sample (adjusted to pH 7) in 4 cycles, washing with 100 μL deionized water, and eluting with 50 μL 2-propanol in 10 cycles. The proposed MEPS procedure has been validated in terms of linearity, accuracy, and precision. A limit…

Use of gold nanoparticle-coated sorbent materials for the selective preconcentration of sulfonylurea herbicides in water samples and determination by…

2012

Abstract Two new gold nanoparticle (NP) coated materials (silica supported on gold NP with and without ionic liquid) were synthesized for solid phase extraction of sulfonylurea herbicides (SUHs), such as bensulfuron-methyl (BSM), metsulfuron-methyl (MSM), pyrazosulfuron-methyl (PSM), thifensulfuron-methyl (TFM) and triasulfuron (TS), from water samples, followed by capillary liquid chromatography coupled to diode array detection (CLC–DAD). Several factors influencing the preconcentration efficiency of SUHs and its subsequent determination, such as pH of the sample, eluent and reusability of sorbents, have been investigated. Under the optimum conditions, the developed method allowed the dete…

Development of stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction mediated by magnetic nanoparticles and its analytical application to the determination of…

2014

A novel microextraction technique combining the principles of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (DμSPE) is presented. The main feature of the method is the use of a neodymium-core stirring bar physically coated with a hydrophobic magnetic nanosorbent. Depending on stirring speed, the magnetic sorbent either acts as a coating material to the stir bar, thus affording extraction alike SBSE, or as a dispersed nanosorbent medium for the collection and extraction of the target analytes, in close analogy to DμSPE. Once the stirring process is finished, the strong magnetic field of the stir bar prevails again and rapidly retrieves the dispersed MNPs. Al…

Carbon fibers as green and sustainable sorbent for the extraction of isoflavones from environmental waters.

2021

Abstract Isoflavones are a group of phytoestrogens of important environmental concern due to their endocrine disrupting effects. This article presents a rapid, green, and sustainable method for determining four isoflavones (daidzein, genistein, formononetin, and biochanin A) in environmental waters complying with current trends in Analytical Chemistry. The method consists of in-syringe dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) as the extraction approach, using carbon fibers as extraction material. The synthesis of carbon fibers is simple and sustainable, since it only requires a natural product such as raw cotton as precursor, which is thermally treated (600 °C for 30 min) in an inert (Ar) a…

Selective solid-phase extraction of organophosphorus pesticides and their oxon-derivatives from water samples using molecularly imprinted polymer fol…

2020

Abstract A molecularly imprinted polymer was synthesized and characterized to be used as solid-phase extraction sorbent for simultaneous chlorpyrifos and diazinon and their oxon derivatives. Several imprinted polymers were prepared and evaluated in a retention study of these analytes compared with a non-printed polymer. Several parameters affecting the extraction of imprinted polymer such as washing solvent, composition and volume of the eluting solvent and sample volume, were also investigated. Under the optimum conditions, the developed method provided satisfactory limits of detection ranging between 0.07 µg L−1 to 0.12 µg L−1 and the material showed an excellent reusability (> 50 reuses)…

Determination of ultraviolet filters in bathing waters by stir bar sorptive–dispersive microextraction coupled to thermal desorption–gas chromatograp…

2015

In this work, a new approach that combines the advantages of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE), i.e. stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction (SBSDµE), is employed as enrichment and clean-up technique for the sensitive determination of eight lipophilic UV filters in water samples. The extraction is accomplished using a neodymium stir bar magnetically coated with oleic acid-coated cobalt ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as sorbent material, which are detached and dispersed into the solution at high stirring rate. When stirring is stopped, MNPs are magnetically retrieved onto the stir bar, which is subjected to thermal desorption (TD) to…

Evaluation of solid-phase extraction and stir-bar sorptive extraction for the determination of fungicide residues at low-microg kg(-1) levels in grap…

2004

Abstract A liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry method has been developed for determining bitertanol, carboxin, flutriafol, pyrimethanil, tebuconazole and triadimefon. The evaluation of both atmospheric pressure interfaces (API), atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) and electrospray (ESI) using positive and negative ionization modes, clearly shows that the studied pesticides are more sensitive using APCI in positive mode. Two procedures based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) and stir-bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) have been assessed for extracting these compounds in grape. The recoveries obtained by SPE in samples spiked at the limit of quantification (LOQ) level ranged from 60…

Analysis of thiabendazole and procymidone in fruits and vegetables by capillary electrophoresis–electrospray mass spectrometry

2002

Abstract A capillary electrophoresis–mass spectrometry method for determining procymidone and thiabendazole in apples, grapes, oranges, pears, strawberries and tomatoes is described. Separation is achieved using a buffer of formic acid–ammonium formate at pH 3.5 with 2% of methanol. Fungicide residues present in the sample are preconcentrated by both solid-phase extraction and injection of large sample volumes into the capillary by a stacking technique, to obtain lower detection limits. Ionization is performed at atmospheric pressure in an electrospray type source and detection is carried out using positive ionization and selected ion monitoring modes. The quantitation limits are 0.005 and …
