High Resolution Time Domain Reflectometry for Dielectric State Monitoring in High Voltage Cables

A high resolution Time Domain Reflectometry system has been designed in order to investigate the possibility of measuring with good accuracy the dielectric properties of high voltage cables insulator materials by means of Time-of-Flight measures. The system employs a dedicated Time-To-Digital Converter in order to achieve a time resolution of 90 ps. By exploiting averaging techniques the resolution has been further increased. Experimental results showed the possibility of measuring the dielectric constant with a resolution of 0.03%.

Optical microcavities exhibit high resonance quality, so that, they are of key interest for the design of low-threshold lasers or for achieving strong coupling regime. An analytical solution for multilayered beams subjected to ends loads

An alternative model for multilayered beams undergoing axial, shear and bending loads applied at the beam's ends is developed. It is based on a layer-wise kinematics, which inherently fulfills the equilibrium equations at layer level and the interface continuity conditions. This kinematics is suitably expressed by introducing a set of generalized variables representative of the beam midline displacement field, which become the primary variables of the problem governing equations. Unified theory for analysis of curved thin-walled girders with open and closed cross section through HSA method

Abstract The behaviour of thin-walled structures is deeply influenced by non-uniform torsion and cross section distortion. In this paper the extension of the Hamiltonian Structural Analysis (HSA) Method to thin-walled straight and curved beams is presented. The proposed method solves the structural elastic problem of thin-walled beams through the definition of a Hamiltonian system composed of 1st order differential equations. Analytical solution for the magneto-electro-elastic bimorph beam forced vibrations problem

Based on the Timoshenko beam theory and on the assumption that the electric and magnetic fields can be treated as steady, since elastic waves propagate very slowly with respect to electromagnetic ones, a general analytical solution for the transient analysis of a magneto-electro-elastic bimorph beam is obtained. General magneto-electric boundary conditions can be applied on the top and bottom surfaces of the beam, allowing us to study the response of the bilayer structure to electromagnetic stimuli. Abstract The compounds (C2H5)2PbCl2, (C2H5)3PbCl and PbCl2 were studied by paper electrophoresis in aqueous LiCl solutions of various molarities. Determination was made of the formation of chloride complexes in which the electric charge was a function of ligand concentration in the solution. From the results of these experiments, and from a comparative examination of anion exchange data obtained in previous researches, useful information is obtained for determining the ligand concentrations relative to the preponderance of cationic, neutral and anionic complexes in the aqueous solutions. Investigation of Tinnitus Patients in Italy: Clinical and Audiological Characteristics

Objective. 312 tinnitus sufferers were studied in order to analyze: the clinical characteristics of tinnitus; the presence of tinnitus-age correlation and tinnitus-hearing loss correlation; the impact of tinnitus on subjects' life and where possible the etiological/predisposing factors of tinnitus.Results. There is a slight predominance of males. The highest percentage of tinnitus results in the decades 61–70. Of the tinnitus sufferers, 197 (63.14%) have a hearing deficit (light hearing loss in 37.18% of cases). The hearing impairment results of sensorineural type in 74.62% and limited to the high frequencies in 58.50%. The tinnitus is referred as unilateral in 59.93%, a pure tone in 66.99%…

Electron Microscopic Contrast of the Cytoskeleton and Junctional Complexes of Intestinal Epithelial Cells by Ethanolic Phosphotungstic Acid

After glutaraldehyde fixation and treatment with ethanolic phosphotungstic acid (E-PTA) before plastic embedding, sections of rat large intestine showed a characteristic electron contrasting pattern in epithelial cells. The axis of microvilli, terminal web, a thin band below the luminal plasma membrane, centrioles and junctional complexes (tight junctions, adherens junctions, and desmosomes) appeared highly contrasted. Selective labelling of melittin with a fluorescent dansylcadaverine probe using guinea-pig liver transglutaminase

Abstract Melittin, a C-terminal peptide, incorporated the fluorescent probe monodansylcadaverine (DNC) when catalysed by guinea-pig liver transglutaminase and Ca2+, as determined by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A 1:1 adduct DNC-melittin was identified in which a single glutamine residue out of two, i.e. Gln25, acts as acyl donor. Incubation of melittin with transglutaminase in the absence of DNC originated high molecular mass complexes indicative that the peptide lysine residue can act as an acyl acceptor. Efficient H2 production by photocatalytic water splitting under UV or solar light over variously modified TiO2-based catalysts

Abstract This paper focused for the first time on the comparison between three different approach to modify the chemico-physical properties of TiO2-based photocatalysts and their effect in the H2 production by photocatalytic water splitting both under UV and solar light irradiation, under the same experimental conditions.
