Organic solvent vapor effects on phase transition of α and β tegafur upon grinding with solvent additives.

Abstract Solvent effects on α tegafur (5-fluoro-1-(tetrahydro-2-furyl)uracil) phase transition to β tegafur during grinding with solvent additive, as well as phase transition in samples exposed to 95% relative solvent vapor pressure has been studied in this research. Samples containing 0.5% and 0.1% of β tegafur in α and β tegafur mixture, as well as samples of pure α tegafur were ground with different solvent additives, and conversion degrees depending on the solvent were determined using PXRD method. The lineshape of the electronic spectrum of the green fluorescent protein chromophore, part I: gas phase.

The vibronic spectra of the green fluorescent protein chromophore analogues p-hydroxybenzylidene-2,3-dimethylimidazolinone (HBDI) and 3,5-tert-butyl-HBDI (35Bu) are similar in the vacuum, but very different in water or ethanol. To understand this difference, we have computed the vibrationally resolved solution spectra of these chromophores, using the polarizable continuum model (PCM) to account for solvent effects on the (harmonic) potential energy surfaces (PES). Solvent-Enhanced Diastereo- and Regioselectivity in the PdII-Catalyzed Synthesis of Six- and Eight-Membered Heterocycles viacis-Aminopalladation

The Pd(II)-catalyzed intramolecular oxidative cyclization of tosyl-protected cis- and trans-N-allyl-2-aminocyclohexanecarboxamides was examined, and efficient syntheses of cyclohexane-fused pyrimidin-4-ones and 1,5-diazocin-6-ones were developed. In the course of the research, a marked solvent effect was observed on both the regio- and diastereoselectivity. Additionally, a novel Pd(II)-mediated domino oxidation, oxidative amination reaction was discovered. Our experimental and theoretical findings suggest that the reactions proceed via a cis-aminopalladation mechanism.

Theoretical study of oligomeric alumatranes present in the chemistry of materials from micro to mesoporous molecular sieves and alumina composites

Quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory have been carried out to investigate molecular precursors based on alumatranes which are one of the components with silatranes for the preparation of mesoporous aluminosilicate materials. In the same way, some oligomeric alumatranes of this study take part in chemical syntheses related to materials such as zeolites and alumina composite. Gas phase and solution equilibrium geometries of the alumatrane precursors were fully optimized at B3LYP level, modeling solvent effects using a self-consistent reaction field (SCRF). Nucleophilic addition onto a carbonyl moiety is strongly affected by solvent, and correctly simulating this solvent effect is often beyond the capability of single-scale quantum mechanical (QM) models. This work explores multiscale approaches for the description of the reversible and highly solvent-sensitive nucleophilic N|···C=O bond formation in an Me2N–(CH2)3–CH=O molecule. The cover picture shows the aldol reaction between ketones and arylaldehydes carried out by using a polystyrene-supported L-proline catalyst. This material furnishes aldol products in high yields and stereoselectivities. Screening of solvents showed that these reactions take place only in the presence of water. This solvent effect, coupled with the high stereoselectivities observed, has been explained by the formation of a hydrophobic core in the inner surface of the resin with the hydrophilic proline moiety in the resin/water interface. Solvent effects on the electrochemistry and spectroscopic properties of alkyl- and aryl-substituted corroles in nonaqueous media are reported. The oxidation and reduction of six compounds containing zero to seven phenyl or substituted phenyl groups on the macrocycle were studied in four different nonaqueous solvents (CH(2)Cl(2), PhCN, THF, and pyridine) containing 0.1 M tetra-n-butylammonium perchlorate.
