Yläkouluikäisten somalipoikien kokemuksia koululiikunnasta ja koulusta

2015

Tutkimus toteutettiin haastattelemalla kuutta yläkoulussa opiskelevaa somalialaistaustaista oppilasta. Haastateltavat olivat …

Proprioceptive response strength in the primary sensorimotor cortex is invariant to the range of finger movement

2023

Available online 13 February 2023 Proprioception is the sense of body position and movement that relies on afference from the proprioceptors in muscles and joints. Proprioceptive responses in the primary sensorimotor (SM1) cortex can be elicited by stim- ulating the proprioceptors using evoked (passive) limb movements. In magnetoencephalography (MEG), propri- oceptive processing can be quantified by recording the movement evoked fields (MEFs) and movement-induced beta power modulations or by computing corticokinematic coherence (CKC) between the limb kinematics and cortical activity. We examined whether cortical proprioceptive processing quantified with MEF peak strength, relative beta supp…

Corticokinematic coherence is stronger to regular than irregular proprioceptive stimulation of the hand

2021

Funding Information: This study was supported by the Academy of Finland “Brain changes across the life-span” profiling funding to University of Jyva€skyla€. H. Piitulainen was supported by Academy of Finland (Grants 296240, 326988, 307250, and 327288) and Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. Publisher Copyright: © 2021 the American Physiological Society. Proprioceptive afference can be investigated using corticokinematic coherence (CKC), which indicates coupling between limb kinematics and cortical activity. CKC has been quantified using proprioceptive stimulation (movement actuators) with fixed interstimulus interval (ISI). However, it is unclear how regularity of the stimulus sequence (jitter…

Case Report: Unmasking Hypercalcemia in Patients With Neuroendocrine Neoplasms. Experience From Six Italian Referral Centers

2021

BackgroundHypercalcemia is a common paraneoplastic syndrome which can occur in up to 10% of patients with advanced neoplasms. Paraneoplastic parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) represents the most frequent cause of this syndrome. In neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) paraneoplastic hypercalcemia is rare.Case SeriesThe present series includes all patients with NENs and paraneoplastic hypercalcemia from four Italian centres: (I) A 40-year-old man was hospitalized for repeated episodes of falls, hyposthenia and drowsiness. Severe hypercalcemia was found. Metastatic pancreatic G2 NEN and PTHrP-related hypercalcemia were diagnosed. The patient started therapy with somatostatin analogs (SSA)…

A possible susceptibility locus for bipolar affective disorder in chromosomal region 10q25--q26.

2000

In an attempt to identify susceptibility loci for bipolar affective disorder, we are currently conducting a systematic genome screen with highly polymorphic microsatellite markers at an average marker spacing of 10 cM in a series of 75 families, comprising 66 families from Germany, eight families from Israel, and one family from Italy. The families were ascertained through index cases with bipolar affective disorder. The distribution of diagnoses is as follows: 126 individuals with bipolar I disorder, 40 with bipolar II disorder, 14 with schizoaffective disorder of the bipolar type, 40 individuals with recurrent unipolar depression, 51 with a minor psychiatric diagnosis, and two individuals…

Mucopolysaccharidoses and other lysosomal storage diseases.

2013

Mucopolysaccharidosis and other lysosomal storage diseases are rare, chronic, and progressive inherited diseases caused by a deficit of lysosomal enzymes. Patients are affected by a wide variety of symptoms. For some lysosomal storage diseases, effective treatments to arrest disease progression, or slow the pathologic process, and increase patient life expectancy are available or being developed. Timely diagnosis is crucial. Rheumatologists, orthopedics, and neurologists are commonly consulted due to unspecific musculoskeletal signs and symptoms. Pain, stiffness, contractures of joints in absence of clinical signs of inflammation, bone pain or abnormalities, osteopenia, osteonecrosis, secon…

MRI findings and evoked potentials in patients with myotonic dystrophy versus facioscapulohumeral dystrophy

1997

Evoked potentials recordings have been applied to many neurological disorders, localizing the lesions in the central nervous system (CNS) pathways. Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is a slowly progressive degenerative disease involving the muscles of the face and shoulders. On the contrary, myotonic distrophy (MD), the most frequent and severe myotonic disease, is caracterized by myotonia (delay of relaxation after voluntary contraction), muscular atrophy and dystrophic changes in non-muscular tissues. In the present investigation, patients with clinically and electromyographically verified FSHD and MD were examined using somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) and brainstem aud…

"Vaikka mä oon tulkki, niin mä oon ihminen" : somalinaistulkkien näkemyksiä asioimistulkin työstä

2013
