La Gipsoteca del Dipartimento Culture e Società dell'Università degli Studi di Palermo. Storia e catalogo

2017

The volume presents, for the first time, the history and catalog of the Gipsoteca of the Culture and Society Department of the University of Palermo. This is an important collection of plaster casts of ancient sculptures, commissioned by Antonino Salinas (1841-1914) at the time of hi…

"I wished my mother enjoyed her work." Adolescents' Perceptions of Parents' Work and Their Links to Adolescent Psychosocial Well-Being

2004

Contains fulltext : 64757.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) This article discusses links between parents’ work and adolescent psychosocial wellbeing from an adolescent perspective. What do adolescents think about their parents’ work? According to adolescents, do parents have enough time and energy for them? Are there links between adolescents’ perceptions of parents’work and their own wellbeing? In the research the sample consisted of 140 Finnish adolescents (mean age 15.9) derived from the longitudinal Adolescent Relationships and Well-Being study. The results indicate that, although most of the adolescents had rather positive perceptions of their parents’ work, they also perceive…

“Emotional Darkness without Solutions”: Subjective Experiences of Mental Health Crisis

2016

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to explore and describe service users’ subjective experiences of mental health crisis. The main research question is: How do people with severe mental health problems experience and understand mental health crisis? Based on a hermeneutic-phenomenological methodology, in-depth interviews with seven participants have been carried out to encourage reflections on mental health crisis experiences. The findings reveal the crisis as being complex and multifaceted, which contains two dimensions in experiencing crisis—an existential dimension (personal) and a contextual (social) dimension. Three main themes identified through the analysis, “Feeling out of contro…

The Role of Technology in Participative Processes

2016

Smart city is more and more, in the common feeling, the crossroad of technologies, but first and foremost, the place where humans, contexts and technologies meet and must interact. Technological systems thanks to the deep human interaction acquire an uncertain behaviour that can be hardly modelled and controlled. The resulting complexity, cannot be easily handled with the tools that are available to separate scientific fields. The interdisciplinarity that comes from the implementation of technologies and the dialogue between these and the territories requires new tools for classification and design. New urban design tools are needed allowing to identify in a standardized way adequate suppor…

The role of transportation and its involved sources of energy in the environmental assessment of marble producing sites

2018

Marble is acquiring large popularity as building material. Since building materials are now required to be characterized by high energy and environmental performances, marble is entailed to fulfill top-level requirements. About its environmental performances an important European Decision establishes criteria for the award of the Community eco-label to this material. Unfortunately, this Decision is focused on mining and processing activities, seemingly neglecting marble transport. In contrast, this phase affects the whole working chain because it releases (pollutant) emissions and involves the use of primary and, in case, secondary energy sources. Here, the focus is on the role played by tr…

Learning the electric field concept as oriented research activity

2003

This work is grounded in a constructivistic conception of the learning of science, more particularly on the model known as teaching–learning as oriented research. In accordance with this theoretical basis we have developed an empirical research project to investigate the teaching of electrostatics in high schools. The designs developed have enabled us to assess the learning achieved by the students from conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal stances. According to our findings we can say that the materials developed and the way we have worked with them have contributed to more significant learning and favored a more positive attitude toward the subject. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Measure the Embodied Energy in Building Materials: An Eco-Sustainable Approach for Construction

2019

This paper highlights how the use of materials and building components often implicates the growth of embodied energy necessary to their construction, which is not always adequately compensated by a decrease of operational energy because incorporated energy can be almost half of the total energy used in a building’s life cycle and, sometimes, it even exceeds operational energy. The paper highlights how searching only for “operational” energy efficiency does not sufficiently guarantee environmental sustainability of the intervention. The intervention is heavily influenced by embodied energy whose knowledge must drive, since the beginning, the decision-making process towards more sustainable …

Työssä oppiminen ja työhyvinvointi muuttuvassa organisaatiossa : Jyväskylän aikuissosiaalityöntekijöiden käsityksiä työssä oppimisesta ja työhyvinvoi…

2012
