Disciplinary Versus Institutional Approaches, Higher Education
2020
Institutional perspectives focus on HEIs as organisations and disciplinary perspectives focus on HEIs as cultural entities. This entry discusses the strengths and weaknesses of cultural and institutional approaches to higher education and higher education research. peerReviewed
The Circularity of MSW in Urban Landscapes: An Evaluation Method for a Sustainable System Implementation
2022
The debate on the sustainable perspective of a circular economy and MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) management is no longer focused on the resolution of an emergency and on the pure technicality of creating efficient services. New light has been shed on the operational phase, as often unresolvable technical-environmental issues during service management lead to a state of decay, affecting urban vulnerability and users’ involvement. The research aims to develop an auxiliary tool for public administrations in planning a zero-waste future whilst enhancing the urban landscape. This study considers the perspective of virtuous management of the resource flow cycle along with evaluating implementable …
Domestic resource mobilization by social movement organizations in Latin America : a case study of the Abrinq Foundation for children rights of Brazil
2008
The aim of this Master’s thesis is to study the feasibility and sustainability of mobilizing domestic resources to advance social movement causes in Latin America. The question is based on the understanding that Social Movement Organizations (SMO) can mobilize the resources –funds and labor- of domestic elite instances in order to favor their beneficiary bases. The thesis proposes a Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM) approach and addresses various theoretical and practical concerns regarding the qualitative impact of that conception in the work of Social Movement Organizations. The specific focus of is centered on resource mobilization strategies and initiatives conducted by the SMO Abrin…
The changing paradigm of document delivery : exploring researchers’ peer to peer practices
2016
Purpose By definition, interlibrary lending is a process involving two libraries. The digital revolution changed the method by which the scientific documents were disseminated during the past couple of decades. Nowadays, researchers can exploit several software applications that enable them to upload, save and deliver their documents from one peer to another without the need for a middle man. This paper reviews this change via a study conducted in two Finnish academic universities. The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which researchers have adopted these new possibilities for document dissemination and how this change will affect the role of the libraries in document delive…
Efficiency of COVID-19 Testing Centers in Iran: A Data Envelopment Analysis Approach
2022
AbstractObjective:The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficiency of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) in managing their nonmonetary resources involved in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) response. Methods:For this purpose, the data envelopment analysis approach was used to measure the efficiency, considering the number of personnel and vehicles and screened passengers as the input and output parameters, respectively. It was examined the efficiency of 10 IRCS’s branches given 17 d of screening operation. For the analysis, the DEA SolverPro software 15a version was used. Results:The results show that only 1 branch had been fully efficient in using the resources, while 5 bra…
Parental Competence in Infant and Primary Education: design and validation of an instrument
2021

Spatial source phase : A new feature for identifying spatial differences based on complex-valued resting-state fMRI data
2019
Spatial source phase, the phase information of spatial maps extracted from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data by data‐driven methods such as independent component analysis (ICA), has rarely been studied. While the observed phase has been shown to convey unique brain information, the role of spatial source phase in representing the intrinsic activity of the brain is yet not clear. This study explores the spatial source phase for identifying spatial differences between patients with schizophrenia (SZs) and healthy controls (HCs) using complex‐valued resting‐state fMRI data from 82 individuals. ICA is first applied to preprocess fMRI data, and post‐ICA phase de‐ambiguity and den…
Declinazione mediterranea di un’urbanistica sostenibile: Marseille Euroméditerranée II
2013
The testing of models of sustainable development in a growing number of cities shows that this has become one of the priority tasks in urban planning, requiring the use of new paradigms of reference, new design principles and new tools for action. At the beginning of the last century the materials used in urban planning were "the sun, space, nature, steel, and reinforced concrete, in that order and in this hierarchy" ( Le Corbusier , 1933). Nowadays, we are witnessing the appearance of new materials such as pollution, waste, land waste, traffic congestion, the abandonment of parts of the city, the indiscriminate use of non-renewable energy sources, unemployment, poverty, social exclusion , …
