SAGECELL: Software-Defined Space-Air-Ground Integrated Moving Cells

2018

Ultra-dense networks (UDNs) provide an effective solution to accommodate the explosively growing data traffic of multimedia services and real-time applications. However, the densification of large numbers of static small cells faces many fundamental challenges, including deployment cost, energy consumption and control, and so on. This motivates us to develop software-defined space-air-ground integrated moving cells (SAGECELL), a programmable, scalable, and flexible framework to integrate space, air, and ground resources for matching dynamic traffic demands with network capacity supplies. First, we provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art literature. Then the conceptual architectur…

Robust entanglement preparation against noise by controlling spatial indistinguishability

2019

Initialization of composite quantum systems into highly entangled states is usually a must to allow their use for quantum technologies. However, the presence of unavoidable noise in the preparation stage makes the system state mixed, thus limiting the possibility of achieving this goal. Here we address this problem in the context of identical particle systems. We define the entanglement of formation for an arbitrary state of two identical qubits within the operational framework of spatially localized operations and classical communication (sLOCC). We then introduce an entropic measure of spatial indistinguishability under sLOCC as an information resource. We show that spatial indistinguisha…

Creating a semantically-enhanced cloud services environment through ontology evolution

2014

Currently, the availability of Web resources has grown enormously to the point that whatever a user needs at a given moment can potentially be found on the Internet. These resources are not limited to data items anymore, functionality delivered through some sort of service architectural model is also offered on the Internet. In the last few years, cloud computing has emerged as one of the most popular computing models to provide services over the Internet. However, as the number of available cloud services increases, the problem of service discovery and selection arises. Experience indicates that semantic technologies can provide the basis for enhanced and more precise search processes. In …

Incentive Mechanism for Resource Allocation in Wireless Virtualized Networks with Multiple Infrastructure Providers

2020

To accommodate the explosively growing demands for mobile traffic service, wireless network virtualization is proposed as the main evolution towards 5G. In this work, a novel contract theoretic incentive mechanism is proposed to study how to manage the resources and provide services to the users in the wireless virtualized networks. We consider that the infrastructure providers (InPs) own the physical networks and the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) has the service information of the users and needs to lease the physical radio resources for providing services. In particular, we utilize the contract theoretic approach to model the resource trading process between the MVNO and multiple…

Resource allocation for clustered network MIMO OFDMA systems

2012

In this article, we address the resource allocation problem for the downlink of a large network multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system with 3-sector base stations. The system is statically divided into a number of disjoint clusters of sectors. A two-step resource allocation scheme is proposed involving the inter-cluster and the intra-cluster levels. As a first step or inter-cluster level, two cooperative frequency reuse approaches are designed to mitigate the inter-cluster interference. A user partition method is proposed to divide the users of each cluster into cluster-edge and cluster-center users. To balance the cell-edge and the cell-average per…

Energy-Efficient and Secure Resource Allocation for Multiple-Antenna NOMA with Wireless Power Transfer

2018

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is considered as one of the promising techniques for providing high data rates in the fifth generation mobile communication. By applying successive interference cancellation schemes and superposition coding at the NOMA receiver, multiple users can be multiplexed on the same subchannel. In this paper, we investigate resource allocation algorithm design for an OFDM-based NOMA system empowered by wireless power transfer. In the considered system, users who need to transmit data can only be powered by the wireless power transfer. With the consideration of an existing eavesdropper, the objective is to obtain secure and energy efficient transmission among mul…

Architectures and protocols for mobile computing applications: a reconfigurable approach

2004

This work deals with reconfigurable control functions and protocols for supporting mobile computing applications in heterogeneous wireless systems like cellular networks and WLANs. The control functions are implemented in a software module, named Reconfigurable Access module for MObile computiNg applications (RAMON), placed in mobile and/or base stations. RAMON operates on abstract models of the main communication functions of a wireless systems (e.g., transmission over the radio channel, coding end error recovery, capacity sharing and packet scheduling, handover, congestion control, etc.). RAMON algorithms are programmed with reference to the abstract models, independently of specific radi…

Channel-dependent load balancing in wireless packet networks

2004

This paper refers to a wireless cellular packet network scenario where fast retransmission of corrupted packets is used to improve the packet error ratio. Since the ‘gross’ packet transmission rate (including retransmission) depends on the channel quality perceived, admitted calls weight unevenly in terms of effective resource consumption. In this paper, we suggest using channel quality information to drive load balancing mechanisms. We propose two novel metrics to determine the best cell to attach to, during handover or new call origination. Extensive simulation results prove the superiority of our proposed schemes with respect to traditional load balancing, which base their operation on t…

An efficient distributed algorithm for generating and updating multicast trees

2006

As group applications are becoming widespread, efficient network utilization becomes a growing concern. Multicast transmission represents a necessary lower network service for the wide diffusion of new multimedia network applications. Multicast transmission may use network resources more efficiently than multiple point-to-point messages; however, creating optimal multicast trees (Steiner Tree Problem in networks) is prohibitively expensive. This paper proposes a distributed algorithm for the heuristic solution of the Steiner Tree Problem, allowing the construction of effective distribution trees using a coordination protocol among the network nodes. Furthermore, we propose a novel distribut…

A new Media Access Control layer Quality of Service multicast scheme for IEEE 802.11s based wireless mesh networks

2014

Inderscience Publishers; International audience; We propose a new Media Access Control (MAC) layer enabling Quality of Service (QoS) multicast scheme for IEEE 802.11s networks, where a unicast routing protocol called HWMP (Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol) is defined. The HWMP protocol is more adapted for best effort traffic, that's why its usage is not suitable for real time multimedia applications. The goal of our proposed mechanism is to take into account multicast communication under QoS constraints for the IEEE 802.11s mesh networks where no QoS multicasting has been defined. Our multicasting scheme handles QoS guarantee for real time applications. Indeed, our scheme is based on finding t…
