Dielectrophoretic alignment and electrical characterization of CuO nanowire-based systems

2021

Abstract Dielectrophoresis is used to assemble nanowires between metallic electrodes to form scalable functional interconnects. The dielectrophoresis parameters are investigated for semiconductor copper oxide (CuO) nanowires that are desirable for energy conversion and storage, gas sensors and nanoelectromechanical systems. Experimental yields of multiple- and single-nanowire interconnects are explored at dielectrophoresis frequencies from 500 Hz to 500 kHz. The electrical properties of nanowire-electrode physical contact interfaces formed by dielectrophoresis, metal deposition, and dry mechanical transfer are investigated. The electrical transport mechanism in these interconnects is determ…

Rate capability of a cryogenic stopping cell for uranium projectile fragments produced at 1000 MeV/u

2016

At the Low-Energy Branch (LEB) of the Super-FRS at FAIR, projectile and fission fragments will be produced at relativistic energies, separated in-flight, energy-bunched, slowed down and thermalized in a cryogenic stopping cell (CSC) filled with ultra-pure He gas. The fragments are extracted from the stopping cell using a combination of DC and RF electric fields and gas flow. A prototype CSC for the LEB has been developed and successfully commissioned at the FRS Ion Catcher at GSI. Ionization of He buffer gas atoms during the stopping of energetic ions creates a region of high space charge in the stopping cell. The space charge decreases the extraction efficiency of stopping cells since the …

Ion diffusion-controlled thermally stimulated processes in x-ray irradiated halide crystals

2003

The ionic and ion diffusion-controlled thermally stimulated relaxation (TSR) processes in CaF2, BaF2, LiBaF3 and KBr crystals were investigated above 290 K by means of the ionic conductivity, ionic thermally stimulated depolarisation current (TSDC) and thermal bleaching techniques. Under a DC field the halide crystals store large ionic space charge. We were able to detect in CaF2, BaF2, LiBaF3 and KBr in the extrinsic ionic conductivity region a series of the ionic defect (the interstitial anion and/or anion vacancies - in fluorides; the cation vacancies - in KBr) release stages: 3-6 wide and overlapping ionic TSDC peaks. The correlated data of the ionic TSDC and the F band thermal show tha…

Determination of charge carrier mobility of hole transporting polytriarylamine-based diodes

2010

Hole transport properties of three different side chain poly(triarylamines) have been determined by means of the analysis of steady-state current-voltage characteristics using co-planar diode structures. The interpretation is based on space-charge limited models with field-dependent mobility. Mobilities between ~ 10- 8 and 10- 6 cm2 V- 1 s- 1 are obtained. The highest mobility is achieved for poly(tetraphenylbenzidine) devices and the lowest for poly(triphenylamine) devices. Electron-rich methoxy substituents increase the mobility of poly(triphenylamine)s. A comparison of the mobility values with those obtained using organic field-effect transistors is also given. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All r…

Effect of Aspect ratio and water contamination on the electric properties of nanostructured insulating materials

2010

Organically-modified nanofiller clays can have significantly different aspect ratios as well as accumulate a relatively large amount of water in the composite bulk due to the contribution of the filler itself and the interaction between filler and polymer matrix. This paper investigates the effect of water absorption in a nanostructured thermoplastic polymer, namely ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA), on electrical property modifications considering the contribution of aspect ratio. The change of electrical properties (particularly space charge accumulation, electric strength, bulk conductivity and permittivity/losses) is studied as a function of water content absorbed by nanofillers having diffe…

Dielectric characterization and ionic conductivity of α-LiIO3 crystals related to the growth conditions

2000

Abstract The dielectric response of α-LiIO3 has been studied at room temperature between 20 Hz and 1 MHz with various types of electrodes and compared to the results in the literature. By changing the sample thickness, a relaxation of space charges is clearly identified and the bulk ionic conductivity is deduced from the admittance diagram. Finally a comparison is carried out between chromium doped and undoped crystals obtained from acid and neutral growth solutions.

Dielectric response of α-LiIO3 acid type crystals

1998

Abstract α-LiIO 3 is often used as non-linear optical material. In view of its preparation, low pH aqueous solutions are used as mother solutions, which give crystals with some hydrogen incorporated to the lattice. Thus, dielectric characterization appears as a very important tool. In this work, the dielectric properties of acid type α-LiIO 3 crystals (conductivity, permittivity, loss-angle tangent) are investigated as functions of temperature and frequency, through an original method allowing seemingly continuous measurements and avoiding space charge contributions to the measurements. The results show the dipolar and low frequency conductivity contributions to the dielectric response. The…

Physical properties of ferroelectric film with continuous space charge distribution

2014

We present a theory of ferroelectric phase transitions in a film with a homogeneously distributed space charge leading to the so-called built-in polarization. On the base of our complete solution of the problem of continuous space charge distribution in a ferroelectric film, we calculate the ferroelectric phase transition temperature , spatial polarization distribution in paraelectric and ferroelectric phases as well as hysteresis loop in the ferroelectric phase. We have shown that the presence of continuous space charge in a film inhibits the ferroelectricity in it: it lowers the ferroelectric phase transition temperature and coercive field. Our estimates of these differences show that the…

Photoelectric Current and Dielectric Properties of Barium-Strontium Niobate Ceramics under UV and Visible Irradiation

2015

A study of photocurrent kinetics and dielectric response to infra-low frequencies in the range of the broad phase transition in the Ba0.25Sr0.75Nb2O6 (BSN-75) relaxor ceramics under visible and ultraviolet radiation is reported. Anomalies are revealed in the dependence on field intensity of dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss determined from measurements of polarisation loops before and after illumination. The effects of pyro-electric space charge, polarisation and photovoltaic contributions on behaviour of the measured photocurrent are discussed. Results of the kinetics of photocurrent and dielectric response to infra-low frequency studied at different temperatures are discussed as…

Photoelectrical Properties of the SBN Relaxor Ceramics in the Range of the Broad Phase Transition

2014

AbstractA study of the effects of white light on photocurrent kinetics and the low and infra-low frequency relaxation of polarization in the barium-strontium niobate SBN‑75 ceramics is reported. It is found that at a low intensity illumination in the range of the relaxor phase the space charge is mainly responsible for manifestation of photo-electrical properties of SBN-75 ceramics.
