Killing God, Executing Christ: Modern Weapons for Old Dreams
2013
What I have tried to outline here is an example of the still under-researched field of the genealogy of images. Strictly speaking, it aspires to be a contribution to our understanding of the role of images in shaping layers of collective memory or of the socialization of historical images. This research cannot be done by a single person or by relying on professional competence in a single field. It requires the collaboration of archaeologists and film restorers (to evaluate the different generations of copies), semiologists (to analyze composition, staging, assembly and editing), historians of mass communication (to study comparatively the migration of a particular set of images across diff…
Epitafio para una guerra fotogénica
2012
Coordinate compounding in English and Spanish
2011
Coordinate compounding is a process which has been only sporadically considered in wordformation studies on Germanic and Romance languages. In this paper, we compare the situation in English with that in Spanish as far as formal structure and semantics are concerned. To this end, an operational definition of coordinate compounding is first provided, after which a semantic classification of coordinate compounds is developed. For each type, variants are discussed, representative examples are provided, and similarities and dissimilarities between the two languages are highlighted. We finish by raising the issues of recursiveness and productivity in coordinate compounding and we examine the pos…
2019
The study of attitudes towards statistics is a topic which has aroused the interest of researchers in different countries and at teaching levels. In this work we present an analysis of the psychometric properties, in terms of structural validity and internal consistency, of a Spanish version of the Survey of Attitudes Towards Statistics (SATS-36) administered to education students. The results obtained from the 409 participants indicate a lack of fit for the six-factor model proposed by the authors of the SATS, especially compared with the five-factor model with corrected mistakes that the authors of this work propose. These results coincide with what has been defended by other investigatio…
Air‑raid shelters: civil war heritage in Valencia city
2017
Memorial sites are an interesting part of the wide range of Spanish Civil War heritage. The city of Valencia preserves a large number of vestiges of that time, among them, more than three hundred air‑raid shelters. In this article we consider these bomb shelters, taking into account the new circumstances relating to this heritage, starting in 2017, when new legislative and management scenarios were set in motion. The approval of the Valencian Autonomous Community Law for Democratic Memory and Coexistence, a recent modification of the Valencian Cultural Heritage Act which expressly highlights civil war heritage, as well as unprecedented activity by the Valencia City Council regarding its pre…
2011
The Spanish Civil War has left many testimonies: written sources, materials remains and, for the moment, while the witnesses still live, even oral reports. However, the value given to these sources varies depending on factors that often have little to do with scientific precision and much to do with political considerations. In line with the current debate about historic memory and the role of archaeology and heritage management in its construction, we deem it necessary that archaeologists, as well as historians, ask to take part. The aim of this paper is to analyze air-raid shelters that still exist in the city of Valencia to reclaim their heritage value and their importance in preserving …
Viaje o turismo a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX
2020

The necessary memory: The Vida Literaria of Joaquín Lorenzo Villanueva
2012
