Need of causal analysis for assessing phase relationships in closed loop interacting cardiovascular variability series

2003

The phase spectra obtained by the classical closed loop autoregressive model (2AR) and by an open loop autoregressive model (ARXAR) were compared to shed light on the need of introducing causality in the assessment of the delay between RR and arterial pressure oscillations. The reliability of the two approaches was tested in simulation and real data setting. In simulation, the coupling strength of a bivariate closed loop process was adjusted to obtain a range of working conditions from open to closed loop. In open loop condition, 2AR and ARXAR phases were comparable and in agreement with the imposed delay. In closed loop condition, ARXAR model returned the imposed delays, while 2AR showed a…

Nature-Inspired Effects of Naturally Occurring Trace Element-Doped Hydroxyapatite Combined with Surface Interactions of Mineral-Apatite Single Crysta…

2022

Innovative engineering design for biologically active hydroxyapatites requires enhancing both mechanical and physical properties, along with biocompatibility, by doping with appropriate chemical elements. Herein, the purpose of this investigation was to evaluate and elucidate the model of naturally occurring hydroxyapatite and the effects of doped trace elements on the function of normal human fibroblasts, representing the main cells of connective tissues. The substrates applied (geological apatites with hexagonal prismatic crystal habit originated from Slyudyanka, Lake Baikal, Russia (GAp) and from Imilchil, The Atlas Mountains, Morocco (YAp)) were prepared from mineral natural apatite wit…

The spectra of mixed $^3$He-$^4$He droplets

2005

The diffusion Monte Carlo technique is used to calculate and analyze the excitation spectrum of $^3$He atoms bound to a cluster of $^4$He atoms, by using a previously determined optimum filling of single-fermion orbits with well defined orbital angular momentum $L$, spin $S$ and parity quantum numbers. The study concentrates on the energies and shapes of the three kinds of states for which the fermionic part of the wave function is a single Slater determinant: maximum $L$ or maximum $S$ states within a given orbit, and fully polarized clusters. The picture that emerges is that of systems with strong shell effects whose binding and excitation energies are essentially determined over configur…

Determination of carbosulfan and its metabolites in oranges by liquid chromatography ion-trap triple-stage mass spectrometry.

2005

Liquid chromatography ion-trap mass spectrometry LC-MSn has been successfully applied to identify and confirm carbosulfan and seven of its metabolites in oranges after pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) with dichloromethane. Mass spectra of carbosulfan and its metabolites were investigated using multiple stages of mass spectrometry. Although interpretation of the fragmentation pathways, based on mass spectra, enables structural elucidation and identification of these compounds, the proposed fragmentation pathways and ion structures need verification by exact mass measurements. The analytical method--PLE and LC-MS3 --was validated: limits of quantification (LOQ) ranged from 0.01 to 0.07 mg …

Mathematical Evaluation of Mössbauer Spectra

1978

As in many other spectroscopic methods, it is necessary in Mossbauer spectroscopy to determine the positions, intensities or areas of the absorption and emission lines as accurately as possible. In the case of poorly resolved or complex hyperfine spectra due to different chemical species or several lattice sites in the sample it is not possible to evaluate the Mossbauer spectra just by hand. In addition, often one is faced with the problem of taking into account cosine smearing effects (Sec. 4.2), thick absorbers associated with the calculation of the transmission integral (Sec. 3.5), magnetic or electric relaxation (Sec. 6.7), or delayed coincidence Mossbauer measurements (Sec. 3.5), which…

Alkyloxy modified pyrene fluorophores with tunable photophysical and crystalline properties

2019

Novel alkyloxy modified 2,7-di-tert-butyl-4,5,9,10-tetra(arylethynyl)pyrenes were prepared through a straightforward Sonogashira coupling approach. Optical properties such as quantum yields and absorption/emission spectra of the fluorophores were investigated by UV/Vis and fluorescence measurements. Aggregation induced excimer formation of the chromophores in polar solvents and in the solid state was proved by the presence of a characteristic bathochromically shifted emission band and a decrease of the emission capability. These results strongly indicate the unexpected observation that the excimer formation of adjacent pyrene rings is not prevented by the introduction of bulky tert-butyl su…

Detection of security relevant substances within the cooperative project SAFE XUV

2008

The objective of this project funded by the German BMBF was to show that security relevant substances can be detected in complex matrices at low concentrations using single photon ionization ion trap mass spectrometry (SPI-ITMS). The advantage of such a soft ionization technique is a reduction of unwanted fragment ions in mass spectra allowing identification of signals from complex matrices and enabling MS/MS capability. The MS/MS studies permit low false-positive and false-negative rates. Additionally, the accumulation of the ions in the ion trap decreases the detection limit. To obtain low detection limits the ionization potentials (IPs) of the relevant substances have to be below the IPs…

Some observations on the fluorometric determination of metallic elements in micellar media

1989

Abstract Experimental evidence is given allowing us to interpret why the detection limits obtained in micellar media are higher than those expected according to fluorescence enhancements for the niobium-lumogallion-tartrate system in the presence of different nonionic surfactants. The residual fluorescence of the surfactant solution and the competitive interaction with micelles between complexes and free ligands were studied. Near the critical micelle concentration of surfactants, remarkable changes in the emission spectra were observed in the case of both complex and free ligand solutions, which indicate the existence of interactions between the chemical system and surfactant monomers and …
