Wavelength-compensated time-sequential multiplexed color joint transform correlator

We report a wavelength-compensated three-channel (RGB) joint transform correlator (JTC) for color pattern recognition using a ferroelectric liquid-crystal spatial light modulator (SLM) operating in binary pure phase modulation. We apply a previously reported time-multiplexing technique useful in creating wavelength-compensated diffraction patterns, based on the synchronization of properly scaled diffraction masks with the input wavelength selection obtained by applying a rotating RGB color-filter wheel to an Ar-Kr laser. Ultraviolet holographic recording in photopolymers

Norland Optical Adhesive (NOA) acrylate based photopolymers were studied as a medium for Bragg grating fabrication. NOA photopolymers have absorption maximum in near UV region, but they are transparent in visible light region. Photopolymers were irradiated by He-Cd laser 325 nm line interference patterns during holographic recording. In light irradiated regions photopolymerization takes place and volume grating can be recorded. Liquid crystal spatial light modulator with very large phase modulation operating in high harmonic orders.

Unusually large phase modulation in a commercial liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM) is reported. Such a situation is obtained by illuminating with visible light a device designed to operate in the infrared range. The phase modulation range reaches 6π radians in the red region of the visible spectrum and 10π radians in the blue region. Excellent diffraction efficiency in high harmonic orders is demonstrated despite a concomitant and non-negligible Fabry–Perot interference effect. This type of SLM opens the possibility to implement diffractive elements with reduced chromatic dispersion or chromatic control.

Study of spatial lateral resolution in off-axis digital holographic microscopy

The lateral resolution in digital holographic microscopy (DHM) has been widely studied in terms of both recording and reconstruction parameters. Although it is understood that once the digital hologram is recorded the physical resolution is fixed according to the diffraction theory and the pixel density, still some researches link the resolution of the reconstructed wavefield with the recording distance as well as with the zero-padding technique. Visible light apparatus for preliminary tests of x-ray optics

We report a useful visible light testing procedure for a first analysis of soft X-ray grazing incidence optics (0.1-2 keV). Although diffraction is a limit in the application of this method, great advantages are obtained by running the tests in air with direct access to modify the geometrical mounting of the individual mirror shells. We present the experimental apparatus and show the first results of the investigation of light weight optics based on plastic foil material and comparison with results obtained with an X-ray beam.

A multi-step mechanism and integrity of titanate nanoribbons.

A one-step hydrothermal treatment of TiO2 powders under strongly basic conditions has been used to synthesize titanate nanoribbons. The nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized using several methods including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS) to determine their morphological, structural and chemical characteristics. The influence of the nature and size of the TiO2 precursor and of the reaction duration on the formation of the nanoribbons was investigated. The 2D:4D ratio is the quotient between the index and ring finger lengths and is a non-direct indicator of androgenisation. If prenatal testosterone levels in the amniotic fluid are high then the probability increases of developing lower ratio values. It has been suggested that people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their parents may have highly androgenised brains, and for this reason the 2D:4D ratio is used as a marker of such idiosyncrasies. Theoretical studies on the spectroscopy of the 7-azaindole monomer and dimer

The absorption and the emission spectra, both fluorescence and phosphorescence, of the 7-azaindole molecule have been studied by means of the complete active space (CAS) SCF method and multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2). Charge transfer states of C2 in Kr clusters

Abstract Ab initio and diatomics-in-ionic-systems (DIIS) calculations are carried out for the C 2 –Kr pair and C 2 –Kr n clusters, respectively. Energetics and transition dipole moments between the ground and excited states are obtained from the calculations. This data is then used to predict the UV charge transfer absorption spectrum of C 2 embedded in Kr n clusters with n  = 1, 12, and 224. The results reveal discrete structure in the computed UV spectrum, which is mainly related to the spin–orbit splitting of Kr + .
