Single-particle and collective excitations in the transitional nucleus 166Os

2021

The mean lifetimes of the lowest energy 2+, 8+ and 9− states in 166Os have been measured using the recoil distance Doppler-shift method in conjunction with a selective recoil-decay tagging technique. These measurements extend studies into the most neutron-deficient mass region accessible to current experimental methods. The B(E2; 2+ → 0+) = 7(2) W.u. extracted from these measurements is markedly lower than those observed in the heavier even-mass Os isotopes. The 8+ and 9− states yield reduced transition probabilities that are consistent with single-particle transitions. While these values may indicate a departure from collective structure, the level scheme and the underlying nuclear configu…

Visualization of Moiré Magnons in Monolayer Ferromagnet

2023

| openaire: EC/H2020/788185/EU//E-DESIGN Two-dimensional magnetic materials provide an ideal platform to explore collective many-body excitations associated with spin fluctuations. In particular, it should be feasible to explore, manipulate, and ultimately design magnonic excitations in two-dimensional van der Waals magnets in a controllable way. Here we demonstrate the emergence of moiré magnon excitations, stemming from the interplay of spin-excitations in monolayer CrBr3 and the moiré pattern arising from the lattice mismatch with the underlying substrate. The existence of moiré magnons is further confirmed via inelastic quasiparticle interference, showing the appearance of a dispersion …

Phase-selective low molecular weight organogelators derived from allylated D-mannose

2022

In the last decades, synthesis and design of low molecular weight organogelators has gained increasing attention due to their versatile use in, for example, cosmetics, biomedicine and oil spill remediation. In this work, three potential gelators have been prepared from allylated d-mannose. Both the gelators and the corresponding gels formed were thoroughly characterized by crystallography, FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, rheometry and NMR spectroscopy, in solution and in solid state. The results showed that two of the compounds phase-selectively form gels with hydrocarbon solvents. The most promising gelator compound is alkene terminated, with the unsaturated end functionality not critical for gel …

1H NMR global diatropicity in copper hydride complexes

2022

Understanding the magnetic response of electrons in nanoclusters is essential to interpret their NMR spectra thereby providing guidelines for their synthesis towards various target applications. Here, we consider two copper hydride clusters that have applications in hydrogen storage and release under standard temperature and pressure. Through Born–Oppenheimer molecular dynamics simulations, we study dynamics effects and their contributions to the NMR peaks. Finally, we examine the electrons’ magnetic response to an applied external magnetic field using the gauge-including magnetically induced currents theory. Local diatropic currents are generated in both clusters but an interesting global …

Fabrication techniques for developing a functional microfluidic glass device suitable for detection in optical spectroscopy system

2012

Microfluidic devices offer the chance to manipulate and analyze fluids including bioassays and chemical reactions. In this study, a method to develop a microfluidic analysis system is proposed for detection of nanotubes by a Raman acquisition setup. Microchannels where fabricated in sodalime glass substrate by MeV ion beam lithography or electron beam lithography and wet etching. Fusion bonding (550 °C) was used to seal the microchannels. As a result a prototype microfluidic device with 1.6 µm deep channel that exhibit efficient sealing and suitable channel geometry was obtained. The microfluidic device was tested in a Raman spectroscopy detection system and the collected spectra showed the…

Spectroscopy of At 201 including the observation of a shears band and the 29/2 + isomeric state

2015

The excited states of 201At were studied and an isomeric 29/2 + state [T1/2 = 3.39(9) μs] was identified by using a fusion-evaporation reaction, a gas-filled recoil separator, and recoil gating techniques. The 29/2 + state is suggested to originate from the π(h9/2) ⊗ |200Po;11− configuration, and it decays through the 269- and 339-keV E2- and E3-type transitions, respectively. Moreover, a cascade of magnetic dipole transitions that is suggested to originate from a shears band was observed by using recoil-gated γ − γ (−γ ) coincidence techniques. peerReviewed
