To make room or not to make room: clients’ narratives about exclusion and inclusion of spirituality in family therapy practice

This empirical article presents four narratives from an ongoing qualitative PhD project about spirituality and family therapeutic practice. Using case studies and narrative vignettes, the article presents client perspectives on being able to discuss their spirituality in therapy, and the repercussions when therapists exclude it. The article refers to current research and provides some reflections on how we can understand spirituality in the context of family therapeutic practice; therapists for holistic, cultural, and ethical reasons should acknowledge the client’s spirituality. Two mystical pleas for the «no pensar nada»: the Third Spiritual alphabet (1527) and the Law of love (1530) by Francisco de Osuna A mystic principle rooted in negative theology (from Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite to Saint John of the Cross), the « no pensar nada » ("thinking-nothing") was strongly defended by Franciscan preacher and spiritual guide of the « Recollection », Francisco de Osuna, in a context of spiritual polemics marked by the condemnation of Toledo's « Alumbrados » ("the Illuminated") in 1525. Testing a Proactive Model of Successful Aging Among Older Adults in Costa Rica and Spain.

The purpose of this study is to examine successful aging among Spanish-speaking older adults in Costa Rica and in Spain using the proactive framework proposed by Kahana et al. (2014). More specifically, we hypothesized that older adults’ life satisfaction would be positively associated with the frequency and perceived level of social support, spirituality/having purpose in life, and the use of proactive physical, cognitive, and social self-care behaviors. Our results confirmed these hypotheses, not only for the overall group of participants, but also separately for older adults in Costa Rica and in Spain. Cuestionarios de atención espiritual en cuidados paliativos: revisión de la evidencia para su aplicación clínica

Objetivo: Revisar los cuestionarios de evaluación de necesidades y recursos espirituales en cuidados paliativos más recientes y evaluar su aplicabilidad clínica en nuestro entorno.Método: Revisión sistemática, siguiendo las guías PRISMA de las publicaciones realizadas durante 2015-2016 de trabajos sobre espiritualidad. Los artículos debían estar centrados en el cuidado espiritual o la evaluación de la espiritualidad, basados en población de cuidados paliativos; y sometidos a revisión por pares.Resultado: de los 42 artículos identificados, tras evaluación independiente de dos observadores, 15 cumplieron criterios de selección.
