Sensorless induction machine drive for fly-wheel generation unit based on a TLS-based non-linear observer
2016
This paper proposes a sensorless technique for an induction machine Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) based on a non-linear observer integrated with a total least-squares speed estimator taking into consideration the IM (Induction Machine) saturation effects. The nonlinear observer is based on an original formulation of the dynamic model of the IM including the magnetic saturation, rearranged in a space-state form, after assuming as state variables the stator current and the rotor magnetizing current space-vectors in the stator reference frame. The choice of the observer gain has been made by the use of Lyapunov's method. The speed signal needed by the non-linear observer for the flux e…
Stabilization for a class of nonlinear networked control systems via polynomial fuzzy model approach
2014
This article is concerned with the stabilization problem for nonlinear networked control systems which are represented by polynomial fuzzy models. Two communication features including signal transmission delays and data missing are taken into account in a network environment. To solve the network-induced communication problems, a novel sampled-data fuzzy controller is designed to guarantee that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable. The stability and stabilization conditions are presented in terms of sum of squares SOS, which can be numerically solved via SOSTOOLS. Finally, a simulation example is provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. © 2014 Wiley Periodi…
Signal Denoising with Harten’s Multiresolution Using Interpolation and Least Squares Fitting
2014
Harten’s multiresolution has been successfully applied to the signal compression using interpolatory reconstructions with nonlinear techniques. Here we study the applicability of these techniques to remove noise to piecewise smooth signals. We use two reconstruction types: interpolatory and least squares, and we introduce ENO and SR nonlinear techniques. The standard methods adaptation to noisy signals and the comparative of the different schemes are the subject of this paper.
Non-parametric spectrum cartography using adaptive radial basis functions
2017
This paper presents a framework for spectrum cartography based on the use of adaptive Gaussian radial basis functions (RBF) centered around a specific number of centroid locations, which are determined, jointly with the other RBF parameters, by the available measurement values at given sensor locations in a specific geographical area. The spectrum map is constructed non-parametrically as no prior knowledge about the transmitters is assumed. The received signal power at each location (over a given bandwidth and time period) is estimated as a weighted contribution from different RBF, in such a way that the both RBF parameters and the weights are jointly optimized using an alternating minimiza…
Determining the nuclear neutron distribution from Coherent Elastic neutrino-Nucleus Scattering: current results and future prospects
2020
Coherent Elastic neutrino-Nucleus Scattering (CEνNS), a process recently measured for the first time at ORNL’s Spallation Neutron Source, is directly sensitive to the weak form factor of the nucleus. The European Spallation Source (ESS), presently under construction, will generate the most intense pulsed neutrino flux suitable for the detection of CEνNS. In this paper we quantify its potential to determine the root mean square radius of the point-neutron distribution, for a variety of target nuclei and a suite of detectors. To put our results in context we also derive, for the first time, a constraint on this parameter from the analysis of the energy and timing data of the CsI detector at t…
Light baryons and their electromagnetic interactions in the covariant constituent quark model
2012
We extend the confined covariant constituent quark model that was previously developed by us for mesons to the baryon sector. In our numerical calculation we use the same values for the constituent quark masses and the infrared cutoff as have been previously used in the meson sector. In a first application we describe the static properties of the proton and neutron, and the $\Lambda$-hyperon (magnetic moments and charge radii) and the behavior of the nucleon form factors at low momentum transfers. We discuss in some detail the conservation of gauge invariance of the electromagnetic transition matrix elements in the presence of a nonlocal coupling of the baryons to the three constituent quar…
GPU accelerated Monte Carlo simulation of the 2D and 3D Ising model
2009
The compute unified device architecture (CUDA) is a programming approach for performing scientific calculations on a graphics processing unit (GPU) as a data-parallel computing device. The programming interface allows to implement algorithms using extensions to standard C language. With continuously increased number of cores in combination with a high memory bandwidth, a recent GPU offers incredible resources for general purpose computing. First, we apply this new technology to Monte Carlo simulations of the two dimensional ferromagnetic square lattice Ising model. By implementing a variant of the checkerboard algorithm, results are obtained up to 60 times faster on the GPU than on a curren…
MUSIC-LS Modal Channel Estimation for an OFDM-OQAM System
2008
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) signaling over frequency selective multipath channels shows inter-symbol interference (ISI) and Inter-Channel Interference (ICI) that degrade its performance. Channel equalization and channel estimation are needed to combat these intrinsic interferences. In this paper a novel modal channel estimator based on the MUltiple signal classification (MUSIC) and least squares (LS) algorithms for a wideband passband OFDM-OQAM signaling over static multipath channels is presented. The effects of the frequency selective channel on the received signal are described considering a wideband OFDM-OQAM sys…
Direct determination of polymerised triacylglycerides in deep-frying vegetable oil by near infrared spectroscopy using Partial Least Squares regressi…
2012
Abstract A green method for the determination of polymerised triacylglyceride (PTG) in deep-frying vegetable oils of different botanic origin has been developed employing near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression. Four different types of oil were heated during several hours, with and without the addition of foodstuff. NIR transmission spectra were obtained directly from sample aliquots stored in glass vials, thus avoiding the consumption of solvents and minimising waste generation. Variables employed for building the PLS models were selected applying interval PLS (iPLS) as well as Uninformative Variable Elimination-PLS (UVE-PLS). A global PLS model using sp…
Apolipoprotein E genotype does not influence the progression of multiple sclerosis
2003
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between apolipoprotein E (APOE) polymorphisms and the progression of MS. METHODS: We investigated 428 subjects affected by clinically defined MS, with a disease duration of at least three years. We collected data concerning the age at onset of MS, clinical type, disease duration and disability according to the expanded disability status scale (EDSS). We also calculated the progression index (PI) to evaluate disease progression. APOE genotyping and the -491 A/T polymorphism of the APOE promoter were determined. RESULTS: No association was observed between the APOE epsilon4 allele and clinical characteristics of our study population. We also investiga…
