LightSleepNet: A Lightweight Deep Model for Rapid Sleep Stage Classification with Spectrograms.
2021
Deep learning has achieved unprecedented success in sleep stage classification tasks, which starts to pave the way for potential real-world applications. However, due to its enormous size, deployment of deep neural networks is hindered by high cost at various aspects, such as computation power, storage, network bandwidth, power consumption, and hardware complexity. For further practical applications (e.g., wearable sleep monitoring devices), there is a need for simple and compact models. In this paper, we propose a lightweight model, namely LightSleepNet, for rapid sleep stage classification based on spectrograms. Our model is assembled by a much fewer number of model parameters compared to…
A BRIEF ANALYSIS ON DEVELOPMENT AND COMPETITIVENESS – CONSIDERING THE WORLD’S TOP TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATIONS
2012
Development represents a strategic goal for every country of the world. But it also is a “complicated issue”, given the multitude of (micro and macro economic) approaches that academics and strategists have proposed for development. By this paper we consider competitiveness as measure and indicator of development – based on World Economic Forum researches and findings. This kind of approach allows us to make some (time - and space - based) comparisons – at country level and to identify some key figures – at industry level – of the world’s top transnational corporations (ranked by UNCTAD) that can be valorised by countries (and TNCs as well) on their journey through economic development and …
Diplostomiasis ( Diplostomum spathaceum and related species).
2020
This book chapter describes various aspects of diplostomiasis caused by Diplostomum spathaceum: diagnosis, epidemiology, life cycle, transmission, developmental stages, population dynamics, effects of climate change on parasite distribution, and disease control and prevention. peerReviewed
Effects of bioheapleaching technology utilizing metal mine emissions on fish in boreal freshwaters
2018
Emissions from metal mining activities are known to deteriorate the quality of aquatic habitats and impair the condition and reproductive potential of fish. Metal extraction by biomining methods has been considered to cause fewer emissions, but for example in Finland, the impacts of a bioheapleaching technology utilizing metal mine on the local freshwaters have been substantial. In this thesis, the impacts of the bioheapleaching mine emissions on three native fish species, brown trout (Salmo trutta) European perch (Perca fluviatilis) and whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus pallasi), were investigated. Manganese and sulphate concentrations have been elevated in the mining impacted waters, and in …
Otolith chemical composition suggests local populations of Antarctic silverfish Pleuragramma antarctica (Boulenger, 1902) around Antarctica are expos…
2021
The Antarctic silverfish Pleuragramma antarctica is a key species in the Southern Ocean ecosystem, and it is potentially threatened by the climate change affecting Antarctic ecosystems. Assessing the possible exposure to similar or different environmental conditions at early life stages and gathering information about connectivity or segregation between local populations of P. antarctica can be key for planning sound management strategies for this species. By using Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, we characterized the otolith chemical composition of 163 adult Antarctic silverfish collected from three areas located thousands of kilometers apart from each other: Ca…
Involvement of circadian oscillation(s) in the photoperiodic time measurement and the induction of reproductive diapause in a northern Drosophila spe…
2013
An ability to predict forthcoming changes in environmental conditions and get prepared for them in advance is crucial for the survival and reproduction of organisms living in a seasonally changing environment. We have studied the possible involvement of circadian oscillator(s) in the photoperiodic timer controlling seasonal responses by tracing Drosophila montana females' diapause induction in constant darkness and in a classical Nanda-Hamner experiment. Nearly all females developed ovaries in continuous darkness, which shows the direct development to be their default developmental pathway in the absence of photoperiods. In Nanda-Hamner experiment the females' diapause incidence was close t…
Environmental Management Maturity: The Role of Dynamic Validation.
2021
Maturity models enhance the performance of companies by prescribing a trajectory through stages of increasing capability. However, a recent review of maturity models concludes that current maturity models hardly meet the design principles required for prescriptive use. To address this deficiency, we conducted semistructured interviews and a Group Model Building study with industrial companies in Spain in which we studied the progression toward a Leading Green Company as the highest maturity stage of environmental management. The findings from the study were tested using surveys with enterprises in Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom, semistructured interviews in the United Kingdom and case…
Aproximación al estudio del desarrollo educativo desde los Ayuntamientos y en el contexto español
2018
The article presents the main results of a study whose purpose has been to investigate the educational development of the municipalities through the actions implemented by the City Councils in the Spanish context. It contains the implementation and validation of a proposed model of stages for educational development, which has resulted in the literature review, 17 in-depth interviews, 2 discussion groups, the pilot implementation of the Model in 3 municipalities, and its validation in practice. Open-ended results indicate some key requirements for educational development: contextualized institutional approaches, flexibility of organizational structures, and a relational system open to innov…
Analysis and reconstruction in stages of the design and construction process of the old and new basilica of S. Peter in Vatican, and its surroundings
2020
