Effect of cycling cadence on subsequent 3 km running performance in well trained triathletes * Commentary

Objectives: To investigate the effect of three cycling cadences on a subsequent 3000 m track running performance in well trained triathletes. Methods: Nine triathletes completed a maximal cycling test, three cycle-run succession sessions (20 minutes of cycling + a 3000 m run) in random order, and one isolated run (3000 m). During the cycling bout of the cycle-run sessions, subjects had to maintain for 20 minutes one of the three cycling cadences corresponding to 60, 80, and 100 rpm. Introduction: Although patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) often suffer from oropharyngeal dysphagia, knowledge about the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms is limited. Substance P (SP) is a localization-independent neurotransmitter of the entire nervous system. Reduced levels of SP were found in saliva of patients with impaired cough reflex and in advanced stages of PD. Association between sarcopenia and diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies

To summarize the prevalence of diabetes in people with sarcopenia (and vice versa) through a meta-analytic approach of available observational studies. In this work, we have presented the findings of the first full methodological systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies exploring the relationship between diabetes and sarcopenia. Our findings overall emphasize the reciprocal relationship between diabetes and sarcopenia in terms of risk of occurrence, that is sarcopenia increases the risk of diabetes being present and vice versa. The link between magnesium (Mg) deficiency and type 2 diabetes mellitus is well known. Type 2 diabetes is frequently associated with both extracellular and intracellular Mg deficits. A chronic latent Mg deficit or an overt clinical hypomagnesaemia is common in subjects with type 2 diabetes, especially in those with poorly controlled glycemic profiles. Background The use of diuretics for hypertension has been associated with unfavorable changes in cardiovascular risk factors, such as uric acid and glucose tolerance, though the findings in the literature are contradictory.
