Variation in mortality among populations is higher for pymetrozine than for imidacloprid and spiromesifen in Trialeurodes vaporariorum in greenhouses…
2014
Abstract. BACKGROUND: Insecticide resistance in Trialeurodes vaporariorum W. is unknown in the species’ northern distribution range where it inhabits mainly commercial greenhouses. Resistance development in whiteflies feeding on year-round crops in greenhouses is possible due to use of chemical treatments to back up biocontrol. We tested the response levels to spiromesifen, pymetrozine and imidacloprid in whiteflies collected from seven greenhouses within a 35 km radius in Western Finland. RESULTS: All except one (PR) population had LC50 values below the recommended concentrations for the tested compounds. However, some populations showed reduced susceptibility to pymetrozine in comparison …
Antibiotiku rezistento koagulāzes negatīvo stafilokoku nozīme traumatoloģijas un ortopēdijas slimnīcā
2016
2023
The direct and indirect consequences of climate change and its repercussions on man and the environment are a cherished theme in the field of architectural composition; human designed settlements have always been confronted with the changing conditions of the environmental context. Defined as a 'special watchdog', the Mediterranean Sea is de facto, the place where climate change is evolving most rapidly and where impacts will intensify in the near future. The force of the changing issues of climate change is to highlight - once again - the indissoluble relationship between man and the environment, the existence of very long-term processes, the responsibility and the impact of human human ch…

Expert Opinion on Three Phage Therapy Related Topics: Bacterial Phage Resistance, Phage Training and Prophages in Bacterial Production Strain
2018
Phage therapy is increasingly put forward as a “new” potential tool in the fight against antibiotic resistant infections. During the “Centennial Celebration of Bacteriophage Research” conference in Tbilisi, Georgia on 26–29 June 2017, an international group of phage researchers committed to elaborate an expert opinion on three contentious phage therapy related issues that are hampering clinical progress in the field of phage therapy. This paper explores and discusses bacterial phage resistance, phage training and the presence of prophages in bacterial production strains while reviewing relevant research findings and experiences. Our purpose is to inform phage therapy stakeholders such as po…
Resistant ammonia-oxidizing archaea endure, but adapting ammonia-oxidizing bacteria thrive in boreal lake sediments receiving nutrient-rich effluents
2018
Climate change along with anthropogenic activities changes biogeochemical conditions in lake ecosystems, modifying the sediment microbial communities. Wastewater effluents introduce nutrients and organic material but also novel microbes to lake ecosystems, simulating forthcoming increases in catchment loadings. In this work, we first used 16s rRNA gene sequencing to study how the overall sediment microbial community responds to wastewater in six boreal lakes. To examine forthcoming changes in the lake biogeochemistry, we focused on the ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB), and examined their functional and compositional community response to wastewater. Although we found the l…
Silence and Resistance as Experiences and Presentations of Pupil Agency in Finnish Elementary School English Lessons
2014
This paper explores the multitude of ways in which Finnish fifth and sixth grade elementary school pupils experience and present their agency in English lessons, with a special focus on pupils' silence and resistance. Pupil agency is often seen as observable action that is oriented towards institutionally accepted goals and norms. In communicative and constructivist understandings of foreign language learning, learner agency is related to the idea of learning by participating. Participation in the classroom is not only individually but also socially constrained. This article is based on a larger, ecologically oriented ethnographic study on fifth and sixth graders' language learner identitie…
Overcoming resistance to HER2 blockade in breast cancer: AXL as a promising druggable target and prognostic biomarker
2022
Introduction: Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease consisting of uncontrolled growth of epithelial cells originating in the ducts or breast lobules. It is currently the most diagnosed cancer worldwide and the fifth cause of cancer-related death in general population, but the first cause in women. Breast cancer incidence is higher in developed countries due to increased risk factors and to increased and earlier detection by mammography screening, which considerably reduces mortality. This is the reason why transitioning countries have higher mortality despite having lower incidence. Regarding the origin of the disease, it is evidenced that the pathways implicated in normal development of…
