Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the decay channel H→ZZ(⁎)→4ℓ with 4.8 fb−1 of pp collision data at s=7 TeV with ATLAS

This Letter presents a search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the decay channel H -> ZZ((*)) -> l(+)l(-)l(-)+l(')-, where l,l' = e or mu, using proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb(-1). The four-lepton invariant mass distribution is compared with Standard Model background expectations to derive upper limits on the cross section of a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass between 110 GeV and 600 GeV. The mass ranges 134-156 GeV, 182-233 GeV, 256-265 GeV and 268-415 GeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. The largest upward deviations from the background-only hypothesis are observed for …
Amplitude analysis and measurement of the time-dependentCPasymmetry ofB0→KS0KS0KS0decays

We present the first results on the Dalitz-plot structure and improved measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters of the process B0→KS0KS0KS0 obtained using 468×106 BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. The Dalitz-plot structure is probed by a time-integrated amplitude analysis that does not distinguish between B0and B 0 decays. We measure the total inclusive branching fraction B(B0→KS0KS0KS0)=(6.19±0.48±0.15±0.12)×10-6, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third represents the Dalitz-plot signal model dependence. Study ofCP-violating charge asymmetries of single muons and like-sign dimuons inpp¯collisions

We measure the inclusive single muon charge asymmetry and the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in $p \bar{p}$ collisions using the full data set of 10.4 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The standard model predictions of the charge asymmetries induced by CP violation are small in magnitude compared to the current experimental precision, so non-zero measurements could indicate new sources of CP violation. The measurements differ from the standard model predictions of CP violation in these asymmetries with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations. Transverse momentum dependence ofηmeson suppression in Au+Au collisions atsNN=200GeV

New measurements by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider for. production at midrapidity as a function of transverse momentum ((PT)) and collision centrality in root s(NN) = 200 GeV Au + Au and p + p collisions are presented. They indicate nuclear modification factors (R-AA) which are similar in both magnitude and trend to those found in earlier pi(0) measurements. Linear fits to R-AA as a function of (PT) in 5-20 GeV/c show that the slope is consistent with zero within two standard deviations at all centralities, although a slow rise cannot be excluded. A new measurement of the spin-dependent structure function $g_{1}(x)$ of the deuteron

Abstract We present a new measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g 1 d of the deuteron in deep inelastic scattering of 190 GeV polarised muons on polarised deuterons, in the kinematic range 0.003 x 2 Q 2 2 . This structure function is found to be negative at small x . The first moment Γ 1 d =∫ 0 1 g 1 d d x evaluated at Q 0 2 = 10 GeV 2 is 0.034 ± 0.009 (stat.) ± 0.006 (syst.). This value is below the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule prediction by three standard deviations. Using our earlier determination of Γ 1 p , we obtain Γ 1 p − Γ 1 n = 0.199 ± 0.038 which agrees with the Bjorken sum rule.
Maximum likelihood positioning for gamma-ray imaging detectors with depth of interaction measurement

Abstract The center of gravity algorithm leads to strong artifacts for gamma-ray imaging detectors that are based on monolithic scintillation crystals and position sensitive photo-detectors. This is a consequence of using the centroids as position estimates. The fact that charge division circuits can also be used to compute the standard deviation of the scintillation light distribution opens a way out of this drawback. We studied the feasibility of maximum likelihood estimation for computing the true gamma-ray photo-conversion position from the centroids and the standard deviation of the light distribution. Wavelet analysis of experimental results for coupled structural–hydraulic behavior of the EURISOL target mock-up

During test runs of the The European Isotope Separation On-Line (EURISOL) target mock-up performed in December 2008, data were recorded for strain gages and for acceleration sensors. In this paper, the applicability of wavelet analysis for detecting the onset and the status of flow-induced cavitation is investigated for the first time. Even under noisy conditions, the detection of incipient cavitation was possible when combining measurements with data from structural and fluid dynamic simulations. Abstract The global analysis of the infrared spectrum of chloromethane involving the ground state and the 13 vibrational states lying up to 2600 cm −1 is reported. This work incorporates and extends to the fifth polyad, the preliminary study of the lower four polyads published by [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 221 (2003) 199]. More than 20 000 transitions (including numerous hot bands) for each isotopomer 12 CH 3 35 Cl and 12 CH 3 37 Cl have been assigned and fitted with a standard deviation of about 3 × 10 −4 cm −1 close to the experimental precision. Observation and polarization measurement ofB0→a1(1260)+a1(1260)−decay

We present measurements of the branching fraction B and longitudinal polarization fraction fL for B0→a1(1260)+a1(1260)- decays, with a1(1260)±→π-π+π±. The data sample, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, represents 465×106 produced BB pairs. We measure B(B0→a1(1260)+a1(1260)-)×[B(a1(1260)+→π-π+π+)]2= (11.8±2.6±1.6)×10-6 and fL=0.31±0.22±0.10, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The decay mode is measured with a significance of 5.0 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties.
EXTRACTION OF ΛΛ SCATTERING LENGTH

We determine ΛΛ scattering parameters from a ΛΛ invariant mass spectrum that was obtained by 12 C (K-, K+ΛΛ) reaction at the KEK Proton Synchrotron. In the framework of Watson's procedure, the obtained scattering length [Formula: see text] and effective range [Formula: see text] are most consistent with the values predicted by using the Nijmegen soft core models (NSC97's). However, the predicted values by using the Nijmegen hard-core ND ( G -matrix) and the extended soft-core (ESC00) models are out of two standard deviations from the determined scattering parameters.
