Vaccinazioni obbligatorie e diritti fondamentali: la paradossale condizione del minore alla luce del DL n. 73/2017

2019

The aim of this essay is to reflect on the governance of unvaccinated Italian children aged between zero and six years, due to the new regulatory system on mandatory vaccination in Italy (Law Decree no. 73/2017, converted into Law no. 119/2017). In order to strengthen and protect the right to health, the Italian government first, and then the lawmakers, set forth a specific prohibition preventing unvaccinated children from attending preschool, whether public or private. The first part of this paper deals with the opportunity to translate the access to preschool in the language of fundamental rights. It will then move to a deep analysis of D.-L. no. 73/2017 and its coercive system, with a vi…

Mechanisms of beneficial legume-microbe interactions

2013

Understanding mechanisms underlying high nutrients use efficiency and carbon allocation in a context of legumes-microbe interactions at the root level (mycorrhiza and nodules) is critical for sound management of croplands taking care of ecosystem services rendered by beneficial microbes. Indeed, availability, uptake and exchange of nutrients in biotrophic interactions will drive plant growth and modulate biomass allocation, that are central to plant yield, a major outcome, in the context of high biomass production. Transport processes across the polarised membrane interfaces are of major importance in the functioning of the established symbiosis as the relation is based on a 'fair-trade' be…

Discriminating and simulating actions with the associative self-organising map

2015

We propose a system able to represent others’ actions as well as to internally simulate their likely continuation from a partial observation. The approach presented here is the first step towards a more ambitious goal of endowing an artificial agent with the ability to recognise and predict others’ intentions. Our approach is based on the associative self-organising map, a variant of the self-organising map capable of learning to associate its activity with different inputs over time, where inputs are processed observations of others’ actions. We have evaluated our system in two different experimental scenarios obtaining promising results: the system demonstrated an ability to learn discrim…

Integrative thinking is the key : An evaluation of current research into the development of adult thinking

2011

Post-formal relativistic-dialectical thinking has been widely claimed to be a new developmental stage of intellectual development. Other theoretical models come very close to post-formal thinking, with overlapping features such as the study of wisdom and epistemic understanding, as well as models of expertise, critical thinking, and scepticism. No coherent theory exists in the fields of post-formal and relativistic-dialectical thinking, though scholars have claimed that there is some similarity between the models. While empirical evidence of interconnectedness between them exists, a major difficulty lies in the theoretical definition of concepts. We critically assess the definitions of rela…

Didáctica de las ciencias experimentales y sociales

2005

ABSTARCT: Thi…

Lessons Learned Using Theory of Mind Methods to Investigate User Social Awareness in Virtual Role-Play

2009

Theory of mind (ToM) methods were used to investigate children’s interpretations of the social and emotional states of synthetic pedagogical characters, focusing on children’s cognitive and affective empathic responses to characters in bullying scenarios and their social awareness and understanding of the characters’ situations. Although cognitive approaches typically do not consider user social awareness and emotional understanding and their roles in interaction, this is critical for our research on empathic engagement. We present a novel approach focusing on story and character comprehension using concepts from ToM methods to understand children’s interpretations of characters within virt…
