Study of the hard double-parton scattering contribution to inclusive four-lepton production in pp collisions at s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2019
The inclusive production of four isolated charged leptons in pp collisions is analysed for the presence of hard double-parton scattering, using 20.2 fb(-1) of data recorded in the ATLAS detector at ...
On the Rees-Sciama effect: maps and statistics
2006
Small maps of the Rees-Sciama (RS) effect are simulated by using an appropriate N-body code and a certain ray-tracing procedure. A method designed for the statistical analysis of cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps is applied to study the resulting simulations. These techniques, recently proposed --by our team-- to consider lens deformations of the CMB, are adapted to deal with the RS effect. This effect and the deviations from Gaussianity associated to it seem to be too small to be detected in the near future. This conclusion follows from our estimation of both the RS angular power spectrum and the RS reduced n-direction correlation functions for n<7.
Status of the EPIC thin and medium filters on-board XMM-Newton after more than 10 years of operation II: analysis of in-flight data
2013
After more than ten years of operation of the EPIC camera on board the X-ray observatory XMM-Newton we have reviewed the status of its thin and medium filters by performing both analysis of data collected in-flight and laboratory measurements on on-ground back-up filters. We have investigated the status of the EPIC thin and medium filters by performing an analysis of the optical loading in the PN offset maps to gauge variations in the optical and UV transmission of the filters. We both investigated repeated observations of single optically bright targets and performed a statistical analysis of the extent of loading versus visual magnitude at different epochs. We report the results of these …
The mass-hierarchy and CP-violation discovery reach of the LBNO long-baseline neutrino experiment.
2014
The next generation neutrino observatory proposed by the LBNO collaboration will address fundamental questions in particle and astroparticle physics. The experiment consists of a far detector, in its first stage a 20 kt LAr double phase TPC and a magnetised iron calorimeter, situated at 2300 km from CERN and a near detector based on a high-pressure argon gas TPC. The long baseline provides a unique opportunity to study neutrino flavour oscillations over their 1st and 2nd oscillation maxima exploring the $L/E$ behaviour, and distinguishing effects arising from $\delta_{CP}$ and matter. In this paper we have reevaluated the physics potential of this setup for determining the mass hierarchy (M…
Identification of Volatile Compounds in Blackcurrant Berries: Differences Among Cultivars
2021
Berries of blackcurrant are known to produce a strong flavor. Some previous studies have reported that a given cultivar of blackcurrant can produce berries with a specific profile of volatile compounds. For the Burgundy region in France, the Noir de Bourgogne cultivar is especially important because it is the main ingredient of a liquor with a designation of origin. The aim of the present study was to characterize the volatile fractions of berries from 15 cultivars in order to explore the possibility of using different cultivars for liquor production. The plants were cultivated under the same conditions and harvested in the same year. The volatile fractions of the harvested berries were ana…
Volatile compounds extracted from polypropylene sheets by hot water :influence of the temperature of sheets injection
1993
A study was made on polypropylene (PP) pellets degraded and not degraded and pointed out the presence and olfactive importance of volatile components extracted from PP pellets by hot water. Plastic packaging materials correspond to a further step of manufacturing: the injection step, and this is often conducted at high temperature. PP (not degraded) and PP-CR (degraded) were transformed into sheets at several temperatures; Lickens-Nickerson extracts were made and allowed the quantification of volatile compounds already identified. A statistical analysis showed that temperature was a very significant parameter. An increasing injection temperature (275 or 300°C° creates increasing quantities …
Chemistry, mineralogy and radioactivity inposidonia oceanicameadows from North-Western Sicily
2004
This paper presents measurements of major, minor, metal trace elements and radionuclides in sediments and in Posidonia oceanica samples from north-western Sicily (Italy). The mineralogical and chemical composition of sediments were determined by X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence techniques, respectively. A flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry was used to measure concentrations of Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in P. oceanica samples and in sediments. Specific activities of selected radionuclides have been determined by high-resolution gamma spectrometry. Standard statistical analysis was used to assess correlations between different elements and different sample types.
Dylematy uzależnienia – impulsywność i radzenie sobie ze stresem u mężczyzn uczestniczących w terapii uzależnień
2017
W drugiej części przedstawiono metodologię badań, a w trzeciej – wyniki…

The relationship between fundamental movement skills and self-reported physical activity during Finnish junior high school
2013
Background: Previous studies have shown that fundamental movement skills (FMS) and physical activity are related. Specifically, earlier studies have demonstrated that the ability to perform a variety of FMS increases the likelihood of children participating in a range of physical activities throughout their lives. To date, however, there have not been studies focused on the development of, or the relationship between, these variables through junior high school (that is, between the ages of 13 and 15). Such studies might provide important insights into the relationships between FMS and physical activity during adolescence, and suggest ways to design more effective physical education programm…
