Theoretical analysis of the possible ultra-low-Q-value decay branch of 135Cs

2011

Abstract We have investigated the feasibility of observing an ultra-low- Q -value beta-decay branch of 135 Cs by applying the microscopic quasiparticle–phonon model with a realistic two-body nuclear interaction. This work was motivated by an earlier combined experimental and theoretical work on decays of 115 In. The inaccuracy of the ground-state-to-ground-state Q value limits our ability to draw definite conclusions, and therefore modern precision measurements for it are called for. We present the computed partial half-lives of each channel for the most likely ranges of Q values.

Combined impacts of the Allee effect, delay and stochasticity: Persistence analysis

2020

Abstract We study a combined influence of the Allee effect, delay and stochasticity on the base of the phenomenological Hassell mathematical model of population dynamics. This bistable dynamical model possesses a wide variety of regimes, both regular and chaotic. In the persistence zone, these regimes coexist with the trivial equilibrium that corresponds to the extinction of the population. It is shown that borders of the persistence zone are defined by the crisis and saddle-node bifurcation points. Noise-induced transitions from the persistence to the extinction are studied both numerically and analytically. Using numerical modeling, we have found that the persistence zone can decrease and…

GPU accelerated Monte Carlo simulation of the 2D and 3D Ising model

2009

The compute unified device architecture (CUDA) is a programming approach for performing scientific calculations on a graphics processing unit (GPU) as a data-parallel computing device. The programming interface allows to implement algorithms using extensions to standard C language. With continuously increased number of cores in combination with a high memory bandwidth, a recent GPU offers incredible resources for general purpose computing. First, we apply this new technology to Monte Carlo simulations of the two dimensional ferromagnetic square lattice Ising model. By implementing a variant of the checkerboard algorithm, results are obtained up to 60 times faster on the GPU than on a curren…

Dynamics of a minimal consumer network with bi -directional influence

2018

Abstract We study the dynamics of a model of interdependent consumer behavior defined by a family of two-dimensional noninvertible maps. This family belongs to a class of coupled logistic maps with different nonlinearity parameters and coupling terms that depend on one variable only. In our companion paper we considered the case of independent consumers as well as the case of uni-directionally connected consumers. The present paper aims at describing the dynamics in the case of a bi-directional connection. In particular, we investigate the bifurcation structure of the parameter plane associated with the strength of coupling between the consumers, focusing on the mechanisms of qualitative tr…

Entanglement dynamics and relaxation in a few-qubit system interacting with random collisions

2008

The dynamics of a single qubit interacting by a sequence of pairwise collisions with an environment consisting of just two more qubits is analyzed. Each collision is modeled in terms of a random unitary operator with a uniform probability distribution described by the uniform Haar measure. We show that the purity of the system qubit as well as the bipartite and the tripartite entanglement reach time averaged equilibrium values characterized by large instantaneous fluctuations. These equilibrium values are independent of the order of collision among the qubits. The relaxation to equilibrium is analyzed also in terms of an ensemble average of random collision histories. Such average allows for…

Non-LTE radiation hydrodynamics in PLUTO

2019

Modeling the dynamics of most astrophysical structures requires an adequate description of the radiation-matter interaction. Several numerical (magneto)hydrodynamics codes were upgraded with a radiation module to fulfill this request. However, those among them that use either the flux-limited diffusion (FLD) or the M1 radiation moment approaches are restricted to the local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). This assumption may be not valid in some astrophysical cases. We present an upgraded version of the LTE radiation-hydrodynamics module implemented in the PLUTO code, originally developed by Kolb et al. (2013), which we have extended to handle non-LTE regimes. Starting from the general freq…
