Trans-popliteal hybrid retrograde technique for revascularization of chronic total occlusions of the superficial femoral artery.

2020

Objectives We present the technical description and preliminary results of a hybrid approach for the treatment of chronic total occlusions of superficial femoral artery in the setting of critical limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). Methods A retrospective analysis of selected case series was performed. A trans-popliteal hybrid technique was carried out in seven limbs (six patients). Open exposure of above-the-knee popliteal artery was performed over its maximum calcification zone. After retrograde recanalization and graft-stenting of the entire superficial femoral artery, endarterectomy of the popliteal artery was performed for debulking and widening of the distal landing zone of the endopros…

Prognostic value of ST-segment resolution after rescue percutaneous coronary intervention. Data from the RICO survey

2008

Objectives: The goal of the present study was to test the impact of ST segment resolution (STR) after rescue percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on the short-term prognosis. Background: The prognostic value of STR after rescue PCI for acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remains undetermined. Methods: From the French regional database, we analyzed 168 consecutive patients with STEMI and failed lysis, defined by <50 percent STR, who underwent rescue PCI. Patients were classified into two groups according to the degree of STR from the maximal ST-elevation measured on the single worst ECG lead before lysis and after rescue PCI: the without STR group (<50% STR) vs. the with STR…

Long-Term Results of Stenting of the Aortic Bifurcation

2012

Background To evaluate the long-term results in a multicentric continuous series of narrowing lesions of the aortic bifurcation treated with a kissing stent. Methods From January, 1st 1999 to the December, 31st 2001, all of the patients ( n = 80) presenting with stenosis of the aortic bifurcation ( n = 15) and/or the 2 common iliac arteries ( n = 65), treated with a kissing stent, in 8 teaching hospitals were collected retrospectively. The risk factors were smoking (91%), dyslipidemia (60%), arterial hypertension (42%) and diabetes (27%). In 84% of cases, the indication for treatment was claudication. The lesions were stenotic n = 76) and/or thrombotic ( n = 18). The associated lesions were…

Real world safety and efficacy of the Janus Tacrolimus-Eluting stent: long-term clinical outcome and angiographic findings from the Tacrolimus-Elutin…

2009

Objectives: We sought to evaluate the safety and performance of the Janus Tacrolimus-Eluting stent (TES) in an unselected population of patients, without application of restrictive clinical or angiographic criteria. Background: Continued attention to the safety, efficacy, and deliverability of first-generation drug eluting stents has led to the development of new antiproliferative agents with alternative stent platforms and different drug carrier vehicles. Methods: The TEST (Tacrolimus Eluting STent) registry is a prospective, nonrandomized single-center registry in which 140 consecutive patients who underwent single- or multi-vessel percutaneous coronary intervention between February 2005 …

Feasibility of Implanting 50-60 mm-Tapered Drug Eluting Stents in Chronic Total Occlusions.

2018

Abstract Background Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of chronic total occlusions (CTO) usually involves multiple overlapping stents implantation to cover long coronary segments. A higher rate of restenosis has been described with stent overlapping. Recently, new long tapered stents emerged as a potential tool for treating long coronary lesions. Feasibility of using these new devices for the CTO PCI has not been described. The aim of this work was to describe our initial experience with 50 and 60 mm-long tapered sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) in CTO PCI. Methods We included 54 consecutive patients who underwent a CTO PCI and in whom an attempt to implant a 50 or 60 mm-long tapered SE…

Bioresorbable vascular scaffold versus everolimus-eluting stents or drug eluting balloon for the treatment of coronary in-stent restenosis: 1-Year fo…

2017

Objectives to compare the 1-year outcome between bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS), everolimus-eluting stent (EES), and drug-eluting balloon (DEB) for in-stent restenosis (ISR) treatment. Background BVS has been proposed as alternative for ISR treatment. To date a direct comparison between BVS and DES or DEB for ISR treatment is lacking. Methods We retrospectively analyzed all ISR lesions treated with BVS, DEB, and EES from January 2012 to December 2014. A total of 548 lesions (498 patients) were included. By applying two propensity-score matching, 93 lesions treated with BVS were compared with 93 lesions treated with DEB, and 100 lesions treated with BVS were compared to 100 lesions tr…

Fludarabine prevents smooth muscle proliferation in vitro and neointimal hyperplasia in vivo through specific inhibition of STAT-1 activation.

2007

Drug-eluting stents are increasingly used to reduce in-stent restenosis and adverse cardiac events after percutaneous coronary interventions. However, the race for the ideal drug-eluting stent is still on, with special regard to the best stent-coating system and the most effective and less toxic drug. Fludarabine, a nucleoside analog, has both anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative cellular effects. The aim of the present study was to assess the cellular and molecular effects of fludarabine on vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) growth in vitro and in vivo and the feasibility and efficacy of a fludarabine-eluting stent. To study the biomolecular effects of fludarabine on VSMC proliferation…

Do women have a hidden heat period?

2002

This article aims to throw light on the controversial topic of whether women have a 'heat' period within their menstrual cycle. The majority of publications in this field report, in addition to a periovulatory peak, no changes at all or even rises in male- and female-initiated sexual activity, woman's sexual desire, autosexual activity and sexual arousability, and interpersonal sexual activities during the mid-follicular and late luteal phases. The lack of a distinct pattern of women's sexual behaviour across the menstrual cycle may be explained by the interplay between cyclical endocrine fluctuations and many psychological, social, cultural and environmental factors, as well as the methodo…

Correlation between atrial fibrillation driver locations and complex fractionated atrial electrograms in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation.

2018

Introduction The aim of this study was to evaluate a spatial correlation between active atrial fibrillation (AF) drivers measured by electrocardiographic imaging and complex fractionated atrial electrograms (CFAEs) in patients with persistent AF. Methods Sixteen patients with persistent AF were included. A biatrial geometry relative to an array of 252-body-surface-electrodes was obtained from a noncontrast computed tomography scan. The reconstructed unipolar AF electrograms were signal-processed (ECVUE™, CardioInsight Technologies Inc., Cleveland, OH, USA) to identify AF drivers. Before driver ablation, a biatrial mapping using the NavX system (St. Jude Medical, St. Paul, MN, USA) was perfo…
