Empathy in Technology Design and Graffiti

This paper discusses empathic understanding, what it means, and how it can be acquired. After an overview of some theories and models from the existing literature, two experiments are presented, where participants were assessing graffiti works. From the results of these experiments, it can be concluded that empathic understanding involves both embodied processes and abstract inferences. Furthermore, understanding can be based on perceived, mechanistic bodily similarities and movements or on folk-psychological inferences mentalized between the observer/empathizer and an object/empathized. Uudelleen kolonisoitu pohjoinen : jälkikoloniaalinen luenta saamelaisista Hannele Pokan romaanissa Piritta

Tutkielmassani tarkastelen saamelaiskuvaa ja jälkikoloniaalisia oireita Hannele Pokan romaanissa Piritta. Tarkoituksenani on selvittää millaisen kuvan teos muodostaa saamelaisista, heidän kulttuuristaan sekä asuinalueestaan ja millaisin keinoin. Tutkielman teoreettinen tausta pohjautuu jälkikoloniaaliseen tutkimukseen sekä toiseuden ja erilaisuuden käsitteisiin saamelaistutkimuksessa. Tutkielman keskeisin ajatus on selkeästi nähtävien ja ”luonnollistuneiden” kolonialismin jälkeisten oireiden esiin nostaminen ja tarkastelu sekä mahdollistaa myös muutos. Edward W. Author's Final draft The crystal structures and molecular conformations of two foldamer-type oligoamides were analyzed. One polymorphic form and seven solvates were found for N¹,N³-bis(2-benzamidophenyl)benzene-1,3-dicarboxamide (the benzene variant), and two polymorphic forms and six solvates for N²,N⁶-bis(2-benzamidophenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide (the pyridine variant). Three crystal structures of the benzene variant and seven structures of the pyridine variant were solved using single crystal X-ray diffraction. This paper present a method for close range photogrammetry based on an camera positioning scheme in which two cameras capture an equal portion of an object at the same scale, but have different focal lengths and camera-to-object distances. This scheme is alternative to the stereoscopic scheme and is associated with a system of equations which permits one to calculate first the relief displacement of points on a photograph and then their relief relative to a reference plane.
