Optimization of the coagulation–flocculation treatment: influence of rapid mix parameters

1999

[EN] Turbid waters, containing suspended and colloidal particles, are normally treated by coagulation–flocculation followed by clarification; the process usually consists of the rapid dispersal of a coagulant into the raw water followed by an intense agitation commonly defined as rapid mixing. Rapid mixing is influenced by chemical and physical parameters and the final result of the whole treatment depends on this step. The study focused on the most important parameters of rapid mix design: velocity gradient and rapid mix time. Wastewaters from a tannery processing stored ovine hides were treated with aluminium(III) or iron(III) salts. Experimental results indicate that rapid mix time has a…

Determination of cyanide by a flow injection analysis-atomic absorption spectrometric method

1999

A new flow injection analysis (FIA) procedure is proposed for the indirect atomic absorption spectrometric determination of cyanide. The FIA manifold is based on the insertion of the sample into a distilled water carrier, then the sample flows through a solid-phase reactor filled with silver iodide entrapped in polymeric resin beads. The calibration graph is linear over the range 0.2-6.0 mg l-1 of cyanide (correlation coefficient 0.9974), the detection limit is 0.1 mg l-1, the sample throughput is 193 h-1 and the RSD is 0.8%. The method is simple, quick and more selective than other published FIA procedures. The reproducibility obtained by using different solid-phase reactors and solutions …

Evaluation of vapor mass transfer in various membrane distillation configurations: an experimental study

2011

Vapor mass transfer phenomena in four different membrane distillation (MD) configurations were examined through a self-built laboratory scale experimen- tal apparatus: Air Gap MD, Sweeping Gas MD, Vacuum Sweeping Gas MD and Vacuum MD. Vapor fluxes were measured and compared with those predicted by various models, showing that MD performance under usual processing conditions is severely controlled by the permeate side resistance to mass transfer.

Reactions in Spain to the expulsion of the Jesuits from France

1996

2017

Two mystical pleas for the «no pensar nada»: the Third Spiritual alphabet (1527) and the Law of love (1530) by Francisco de Osuna A mystic principle rooted in negative theology (from Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite to Saint John of the Cross), the « no pensar nada » ("thinking-nothing") was strongly defended by Franciscan preacher and spiritual guide of the « Recollection », Francisco de Osuna, in a context of spiritual polemics marked by the condemnation of Toledo's « Alumbrados » ("the Illuminated") in 1525. Despite the Holy Office's strong pressure, and the threat of censorship, Osuna openly advocated the « thinking-nothing » principle in a chapter of the Third Spiritual Alphabet (1527),…

Franču jaunā viļņa un videoblogeru stilistikas salīdzinošā analīze

2019

Characterization of five fungal endophytes producing Cajaninstilbene acid isolated from pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp].

2011

Five fungal endophytes (K4, K5, K6, K9, K14) producing Cajaninstilbene acid (CSA, 3-hydroxy-4-prenyl-5-methoxystilbene-2-carboxylic acid) were isolated from the roots of pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.]. CSA is responsible for the prominent pharmacological activities in pigeon pea. The amount of CSA in culture solution varied among the five fungal endophytes. K4 produced the highest levels of CSA (1037.13 µg/L) among the endophytes tested after incubation for five days. Both morphological characteristics and molecular methods were used for species identification of fungal endophytes. The five endophytic isolates were characterized by analyzing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rR…

TTAS a New Stilbene Derivative that Induces Apoptosis in Leishmania Infantum

2012

Leishmania parasites are able to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death), similarly to mammalian cells. Recently it was demonstrated in vitro the anti-leishmanial effect of some natural and synthetic stilbenoids including resveratrol and piceatannol. In this study we evaluated the Leishmanicidal activity of a pool of stilbene derivatives which had previously shown high apoptotic efficacy against neoplastic cells. All the compounds tested were capable to decrease the parasite viability in a dose-dependent manner. Trans-stilbenes proved to be markedly more effective than cis-isomers. This was different from that observed in tumor cells in which cis-stilbenes were more potent cytotoxic agent…
