Visual Strategies in Analogical Reasoning Development: A New Method for Classifying Scanpaths
2013
International audience; Development of analogical reasoning is often explained by general maturation of executive functions. A consequence of the involvement of executive functions would be that children and adults differ in the visual strategies they apply when solving analogical problems. Since visual strategies can be studied by means of eye-tracking, we compared the visual scanpaths of children and adults in three different analogical reasoning tasks. This comparison was done by means of a novel technique that combined a recently developed algorithm for computing a “distance” between any pair of scanpaths (Jarodzka, Holmqvist, & Nyström, 2010), multidimensional scaling (MDS), and a neur…
Familjespråkpolicy och språkanvändning i en tvåspråkig familj
2016
Tämän maisteritutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää kaksikielisen perheen kielellisiä toimintaperiaatteita kahtena eri ajankohtana ja millaisia muutoksia kielellisissä toimintaperiaatteissa on todettavissa ajan kuluessa. Erityisenä kiinnostuksen kohteena on sisarusten kielenkäyttö. Tutkimus toteutettiin kahdessa ajanjaksossa.
NASH EVOLUTIONARY ALGORITHMS: TESTING PROBLEM SIZE IN RECONSTRUCTION PROBLEMS IN FRAME STRUCTURES
2016
The use of evolutionary algorithms has been enhanced in recent years for solving real engineering problems, where the requirements of intense computational calculations are needed, especially when computational engineering simulations are involved (use of finite element method, boundary element method, etc). The coupling of game-theory concepts in evolutionary algorithms has been a recent line of research which could enhance the efficiency of the optimum design procedure and the quality of the design solutions achieved. They have been applied in several fields of engineering and sciences, mainly, in aeronautical and structural engineering (e.g: in computational fluid dynamics and solid mech…
Service Provisioning with Multiple Service Providers in 5G Ultra-dense Small Cell Networks
2015
In this work, a game theoretical approach for addressing the virtual network service providers (NSPs), small cell provider (SCP) and user interaction in heterogenous small cell networks is presented. In particular, we consider the users can select the services of different NSPs based on their prices. The NSPs have no dedicated hardware and need to rent from the SCP in term of radio resources, e.g., small cell base stations (SBSs) in order to provide satisfied services to the users. Due to the fact that the selfish parties involved aim at maximizing their own profits, a hierarchical dynamic game framework is presented to address interactive decision problem. In the lower-level, a Stackelberg…
The functional significance of colour polymorphism in the European common wall lizard (Podarcis muralis)
2021
Colour polymorphisms, the coexistence of two or more colour morphs of a species within a population, have long fascinated evolutionary biologists interested in the mechanisms generating and maintaining phenotypic variation in nature. The functional significance of colour polymorphisms (i.e. their adaptive value) is often linked to the selective mechanisms responsible for their maintenance over time. In lizards, the hypothesis that colour morphs may reflect alternative reproductive strategies involving differential sociosexual behaviour and/or alternative reproductive strategies has come to dominate the field. Wall lizards (family Lacertidae, genus Podarcis), with several geographically dist…
Tracking migration of black‐headed buntings Emberiza melanocephala reveals the Iranian Plateau as an ecological barrier along the Indo‐European flyway
2021
The black-headed bunting is one of the few species that migrate along the Indo-European flyway, and its migration routes and phenology are poorly understood. We provide the first individual-based year-round tracking study describing route choice and timing of black-headed buntings migrating from a breeding site in Croatia to a 6000 km distant non-breeding region in Maharashtra, central India. To evaluate landscapes important for the black-headed bunting migration, we quantified land covers and climates along the migration corridor. Stopover areas during the post-breeding migration were concentrated in four distinct regions: the Balkan Peninsula, central Anatolia, along with the Zagros mount…
Analysis and reconstruction in stages of the design and construction process of the old and new basilica of S. Peter in Vatican, and its surroundings
2020
Optimistit opintiellä : opinnoissaan menestyvien nuorten hyvinvointi lukiosta jatko-opintoihin
2007
Sirpa Vahtera tutki väitöstyössään opinnoissaan menestyvien nuorten ajattelu- ja toimintastrategioita ja psyykkistä hyvinvointia lukiosta jatko-opintoihin. - Lukioissa kannattaa vaalia oppimisen ja yhdessä tekemisen iloa. Optimistinen suhtautuminen tulevaisuuteen ja omien tietojen ja taitojen positiivinen arviointi ovat lukiolaisen psyykkistä hyvinvointia varsinkin Suomessa, jossa jatko-opintoihin siirtyminen on monelle nuorelle pitkä ja raskas prosessi, Vahtera kertoo. Vahtera etsi tutkimuksessaan nuorten psyykkistä hyvinvointia ja opiskelua parhaiten tukevia ajattelu- ja toimintatapoja. Opinnoissaan menestyvät nuoret käyttivät optimistista ajattelu- ja toimintastrategiaa. Optimistinen str…
Threat Appraisal, Resilience, and Health Behaviors in Recovered COVID-19 Patients: The Serial Mediation of Coping and Meaning-Making
2023
Research indicates that both cognitive appraisal and personal resources can noticeably influence health behaviors, as individuals modify their health convictions and practices on the basis of threat appraisal, personality, and meaning. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether coping strategies and meaning-making can serially mediate the relationship of threat appraisal and resilience with health behaviors in recovered COVID-19 patients. Self-report measures of threat appraisal, resilience, coping, meaning-making, and health behaviors were completed by 266 participants (aged 17 to 78, 51.5% female) who had recovered from COVID-19. The serial mediation analysis showed that the …
MOTIVATION – A STIMULATING FACTOR FOR INCREASING HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PERFORMANCE
2012
Motivation is the basis of behaviours and activities that people deliver inside the association in relation to the peculiarity of the challenges that follow a category or another of functional relations. Thus, in order to assure the performance of the modern associations there is the need to know and understand the elements that motivate or demotivate an employee and even more, to apply them. Individual and constructional performance is in direct relationship with the direct implementation of the management of human resources. Thus, only by knowing the motivational theories and by applying efficient managerial strategies in order to engage the employees in competitive achievement of the org…
