Mollusc and brachiopod skeletal hard parts: Intricate archives of their marine environment

The biogenic carbonate hard parts of fossil bivalves, cephalopods and brachiopods are among the most widely exploited marine archives of Phanerozoic environmental and climate dynamics research. The advent of novel analytical tools has led many workers to explore non-traditional geochemical and petrographic proxies, and work performed in neighbouring disciplines sheds light on the complex biomineralization strategies applied by these organisms. Fossil representatives of the family Greenideidae (Hemiptera, Aphidoidea) from the Miocene of Europe

Abstract Four new aphid species (Hemiptera, Aphidoidea, Greenideidae) are described on the basis of imprints in oil-shales from the Miocene of Europe (Rubielos de Mora, Spain; Vishnevaya Balka 〚Stavropol〛, Russia): Eutrichosiphum europaeum nov. sp., Greenidea hispanica nov. sp., Greenideoida (Pentatrichosiphum) turolensis nov. sp. and Mollitrichosiphum rubusensis nov. sp. All the taxa are placed within recent genera of the subfamily Greenideinae. Miocene representatives of this subfamily have been found in the south of Europe. Later changes of climatic conditions limited its geographic range to south-eastern Asia, where it is now represented by over 130 species of seven genera.

Porewater pressure control on subglacial soft sediment remobilization and tunnel valley formation: A case study from the Alnif tunnel valley (Morocco)

25 pages; International audience; In the eastern part of the Moroccan Anti-Atlas Mountains, the Alnif area exposes a buried Ordovician glacial tunnel valley (5 km wide, 180 m deep) cut into preglacial marine sediments. The preglacial sedimentary sequence, deposited in a marine environment, is characterized by a typical "layer-cake" configuration of permeable (sand) and impermeable (clays and early-cemented sandstones) layers. At the base of the tunnel valley, a discontinuous and fan-shaped glacial conglomeratic unit 10 to 15 m thick occurs, erosively deposited over preglacial marine sediments. Abstract The Pizzo Lupo section (Sicanian Mts, central Sicily) is an Upper Triassic–Lower Jurassic condensed deep-water succession, where the relationships among synsedimentary tectonic, soft-sediment deformations, volcanism and lithological changes reflect the evolution of a rift-basin. The morphostructural setting of the studied basin appears as a gently dipping slope where a fault-delimited area (graben to halfgraben) was developed. Early–middle Jurassic lytoceratid ammonites with constrictions from Morocco: palaeobiogeographical and evolutionary implications.

A set of 58 specimens, recently collected at Amellago in the central High Atlas (Morocco), has enabled us to trace a succession of three species over eight biozones from the Toarcian to the Aalenian. An important problem facing inter-regional correlation in the Cambrian is the scarcity of shared taxa between different palaeogeographic domains. Currently, species of the Corynexochida are proposed as tools to define the base of Cambrian Series 3. However, few Mediterranean Corynexochida species are known. A specimen of Dinesus truyolsi comb. nov. from the middle Cambrian of Spain represents the first record of this genus in the Acadobaltic province. Erbia and Tingyuania are accepted as junior subjective synonyms of Dinesus, and we now recognize 22 species within this genus. A new species of Tococladidae CARPENTER, 1966 from the Permian of France (Insecta: Archaeorthoptera)

Abstract A new forewing venation pattern of the Tococladidae is proposed and the phylogenetic affinities of this family are discussed, based on Tococladus garrici nov. sp. This fossil comes from the Salagou Formation (Permian, Saxonian Group, Lodeve basin, France). The Tococladidae is assigned to the Archaeorthoptera BETHOUX and NEL, 2002 . The biostratigraphic implications of this discovery are briefly discussed, but it is still not possible to infer any definite conclusion about the age of this formation.

Palaeophylloxera nov. gen., The firstfossil specimen of the family Phylloxeridae (Hemiptera, Phylloxeroidea); Lower Miocene of Spain

A fossil alate aphid from the Lower Aragonian (Lower Miocene) deposits of Rubielos de Mora (Teruelprovince) in eastern Spain is described as Palaeophylloxera seilacheri nov. gen. and sp. It is the first fossil specimen described within the Family Phylloxeridae. The principal differences between this genus and other representatives of the Phylloxeridae (and also the extinct Elektraphididae) are the apparent presence of an oblique vein on the hind wing, the presence of distinctly visible transverse striae on antennal segment III, and the peculier venation on the fore wings.

Three cranidia of a conocoryphid trilobite are described from the lower Caesaraugustan Regional Stage (upper part of provisional Cambrian Stage 5 within Cambrian Series 3) in the Iberian Chains, Spain. The material is from the upper part of the Mansilla Formation and the base of the overlying Murero Formation. It closely resembles Bailiella tenuicincta (Linnarsson, 1879), which has previously been described from the Ptychagnostus gibbus (Cambrian Stage 5) and lower P. atavus zones (lower Drumian Stage) of Baltica (Sweden and Bornholm), and from the P. atavus Zone of West Avalonia (Newfoundland).
