Objective The purpose of the present study was to examine fruit and vegetable consumption according to gender, educational attainment and regional affiliation in Europe. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting 21 European countries. Participants 37 672 adults participating in the 7th round of the European Social Survey. Finite element analysis of the out-of-plane behavior of FRP strengthened masonry panels

Abstract In the present study a numerical model is proposed for the response of out-of-plane loaded calcarenite masonry walls strengthened with vertical CFRP strips applied on the substrate by means of epoxy resin. A simplified structural scheme is considered consisting in a beam fixed at one end, subjected to constant axial load and out-of-plane lateral force monotonically increasing. Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites represent an effective, compatible and cost-efficient solution for strengthening and retrofitting existing structures. A strong research effort was done to investigate the tensile and bond properties of these materials, as well as the overall behaviour of strengthened members. Relation between grain size and hydrogen diffusion coefficient in an industrial Pd–23% Ag alloy

Abstract The diffusion mechanism of hydrogen in an industrial cold worked Pd–23% Ag alloy is investigated according to its grain size. The microstructural parameters are determined by X-ray diffraction analysis and the diffusion parameters are determined using the galvanostatic electrochemical permeation technique. Two diffusion mechanisms are displayed. For apparent grain size below 40 nm the hydrogen atoms diffuse in the grain boundaries. For grain size above 100 nm, an intergranular diffusion mechanism occurs. For intermediate grain size both mechanisms coexist. A design-oriented analytical model able to evaluate the shear capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets or strips oriented in any direction is proposed.
