Measure dependence of 2D simplicial quantum gravity

1995

We study pure 2D Euclidean quantum gravity with $R^2$ interaction on spherical lattices, employing Regge's formulation. We attempt to measure the string susceptibility exponent $\gamma_{\rm str}$ by using a finite-size scaling Ansatz in the expectation value of $R^2$. To check on effects of the path integral measure we investigate two scale invariant measures, the "computer" measure $dl/l$ and the Misner measure $dl/\sqrt A$.

A class of invisible axion models with FCNCs at tree level

2014

We build a class of invisible axion models with tree-level Flavor Changing Neutral Currents completely controlled by the fermion mixing matrices. The scalar sector of these models contains three-Higgs doublets and a complex scalar gauge singlet, with the same fermionic content than the Standard Model. A horizontal Peccei-Quinn symmetry provides a solution to the strong CP problem and predicts the existence of a very light and weakly coupled pseudo-Goldstone boson, the invisible axion or familon. A phenomenological analysis is performed taking into account familon searches in rare kaon and muon decays, astrophysical considerations and axion searches via axion-photon conversion. Drastic diffe…

Neutral heavy lepton signatures at the Z0 peak

1990

Abstract Gauge singlet Neutral Heavy Leptons (NHL) arise in many extensions of the standard electroweak theory such as superstring inspired models and their existence may be related to the observed smallness of the neutrino masses. Existing limits on such particles are still fairly poor. A brief discussion is given of the signatures arising from their production through Z 0 → N + ν or Z 0 → N + ν and their subsequent decays within different models. Taking into account the expected luminosities and typical detector efficiencies of the different LEP/SLC experiments one concludes that these may either discover isosinglets or else substantially improve and extend present limits on their mass an…

Flavour-violating charged lepton decays in seesaw-type models

1994

Analytic expressions of lepton-flavour- and lepton-number-violating decays of charged leptons are derived in the context of general $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$ seesaw scenarios that are motivated by grand unified theories (GUT's) or superstring models, in which left-handed and/or right-handed neutral singlets are present. Possible constraints imposed by cosmology and low-energy data are briefly discussed. The violation of the decoupling theorem in flavour-dependent graphs due to the presence of heavy neutral leptons of Dirac or Majorana nature is emphasized. Numerical estimates reveal that the decays $\tau^-\to e^-e^-e^+$ or $\tau^-\to e^-\mu^-\mu^+$ can be as large as $\sim 10^{-6}$, which may…

The 3rd Flow Component as a QGP Signal

2004

Earlier fluid dynamical calculations with QGP show a softening of the directed flow while with hadronic matter this effect is absent. On the other hand, we indicated that a third flow component shows up in the reaction plane as an enhanced emission, which is orthogonal to the directed flow. This is not shadowed by the deflected projectile and target, and shows up at measurable rapidities, $y_cm = 1-2$. To study the formation of this effect initial stages of relativistic heavy ion collisions are studied. An effective string rope model is presented for heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies. Our model takes into account baryon recoil for both target and projectile, arising from the acceleratio…

Lepton physics versus neutrino mass

1990

Abstract The relationship between the strength of lepton flavour violating processes and the magnitude of the neutrino mass is rather model dependent. I review this question within different neutrino mixing models including superstring inspired models. Processes such as μ → e + γ , μ → 3 e , μ - e conversion in nuclei, etc. as well as lepton flavour violating Z ° decays can occur even if the physical neutrinos are strictly massless. As a result, the corresponding rates are unconstrained by bounds on the neutrino mass that follow from laboratory, astrophysics and cosmology and can therefore be large. Leptonic CP violation may also occur even when the physical neutrinos are strictly massless.

Production mechanisms and signatures of isosinglet neutral heavy leptons in Z0 decays

1990

Abstract Neutral Heavy Leptons (NHLs) arise in many extensions of the standard electroweak theory such as superstring inspired models. The possibility of gauge singlets NHLs is especially attractive because it gives an explanation for the observed smallness of the neutrino mass. Existing limits on the possible existence of such particles are still fairly poor. We have investigated isosinglet NHL production and decays within different models. The dominant production cross section is single production (i.e. Z 0 → N + ν or Z 0 → N + ν ) as a result of mixing with the standard doublet neutrinos. Subsequent NHL decays lead to striking signatures. Taking into account the expected luminosities and…

Regge signatures from CLAS Λ(1520) photoproduction data at forward angles

2014

The γp→K+Λ(1520) reaction mechanism is investigated within a Regge-effective Lagrangian hybrid approach based on our previous study of this reaction [Phys. Rev. C 89, 015203 (2014)PRVCAN0556-281310.1103/PhysRevC.89.015203]. Near threshold and for large K+ angles, the data from both the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility large acceptance spectrometer (CLAS) and the laser electron photon beamline at SPring-8 (LEPS) can be successfully described by considering the contributions from the contact, t-channel K¯ exchange, u-channel Λ(1115) hyperon pole, and s-channel nucleon pole and N*(2120) resonance contributions. However, for higher energies and forward K+ angles, systematic discrep…

Factorization in closed string field theory

1994

Abstract The so long made assumption, that a general closed-string vertex operator V should be built as a product of left- and right-moving vertex operators, rests on the fact that the closed-string Fock spce is constructed as a tensor product of left- and right-moving open-string Fock spaces. In this letter we will relax this assumption by proving that factorization of closed-string vertices is a general rule.

NON-PERTURBATIVE VACUUM WAVE-FUNCTIONAL AND CLOSED STRING EQUATIONS OF MOTION

1989

The anomalous conformal dependence of the vacuum wave-functional is studied in the non-perturbative regime of the closed bosonic string theory. It is shown that the vanishing of the vacuum expectation value of the stress-energy tensor trace leads to the implementation of a suitable variational condition on the wave-functional, provided that the dilaton condensate be taken as a conformal compensator for the graviton condensate of the embedding space.
