Density Functional Theory Investigation on the Nucleation of Homo- and Heteronuclear Metal Clusters on Defective Graphene
2016
Nucleation of homo- (Ni, Pd, Re, Pt) and heterometallic (Ni–Pd, Re–Pt) clusters on monovacancy sites of a graphene sheet has been investigated by means of periodic density functional theory calculations. It is shown that a vacant site in graphene is an effective nucleation center for both the monometallic and bimetallic clusters, whose characteristics are described in terms of structural distortions, nucleation energetics, affinities between different metal atoms, metal–carbon interactions, and ease of diffusion of metal atoms on graphene.
On the use of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for evaluating the tensile behaviour of BFRCM strips
2019
Abstract. Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites are becoming largely adopted for retrofitting masonry structures. These materials offer several advantages in comparison to Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites, such as good resistance to fire and high temperatures, vapour permeability, possibility to be applied on wet surfaces, higher compatibility with the masonry substrate. However, the tensile behavior of FRCM materials is more complex compared to FRP composites, due to the limited tensile strength of the cement-based matrix. For this reason, FRCM materials require appropriate tensile characterization and, in this context, the use of non-conventional measurement syst…
Ti–Ru bimetallic complexes: catalysts for ring-closing metathesis
2002
The reaction of the titanocene monophosphanes ( 1 – 4 ) with the dimer [( p -cymene)RuCl 2 ] 2 gives the heterobimetallic compounds ( p -cymene)[(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )(μ-η 5 :η 1 -C 5 H 4 (CR 2 ) n PR′ 2 )TiCl 2 ]RuCl 2 ( 5 – 8 ). The structure of 8 , determined by X-ray diffraction, is reported here. A preliminary assessment of the performance of these complexes in ring-closing metathesis (RCM) revealed an excellent Ti–Ru–allenylidene pre-catalyst 12 .
Sub-Millimeter Displacement Sensing by Passive UHF RFID Antennas
2014
A slotted patch is transformed into a wireless passive UHF-RFID sensor of uni-dimensional displacements by introducing a mechanic-electromagnetic modulation capable to convert sub-millimeter deformations into changes of the antenna's response, remotely detectable. A design methodology allows to obtain the desired sensitivity and dynamic range in a fully controllable way. The sensor and the methodology are discussed through the help of preliminary laboratory experimentations on a concrete brick, showing the possibility to achieve resolutions better than 0.1 mm with low cost readers.
Effects of Silver Doping on the Geometric and Electronic Structure and Optical Absorption Spectra of the Au_{25-n}Ag_{n}(SH)_{18}^{-} (n = 1, 2, 4, 6…
2012
The effect of silver doping of the Au25(SH)18– nanoparticle is studied by investigating Au25–nAgn(SH)18– (n = 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12) systems using DFT. For n = 1, doping of the icosahedral shell of the metal core is energetically more favorable than doping of the metal–thiolate units or the center of the core. For n ≥ 2, only doping of the core surface is considered, and arrangements where the silver dopants are in close proximity tend to be slightly less favorable. However, energy differences are small, and all conformations are accessible under experimental conditions. Boltzmann-averaged excitation spectra for these systems show similar features to the undoped Au25(SH)18–. The main differ…

2021
Krāsaino metālu noteikšana augsnes paraugos ar eksprestestu metodi. Leimane I. L., zinātniskais vadītājs doc. Dr.ķīm. Jānis Ģībietis. Bakalaura darbs, 44 lappuses, 35 tabulas, 18 literatūras avoti, 4 pielikumi.
Rigorous investigation of RF breakdown effects in high power microstrip passive circuits
2009
This work presents a new rigorous investigation of corona effects in microstrip components. To carry out the investigation, a new software tool has been developed. The new tool first calculates the electromagnetic fields in complex microstrip structures using a Volume Integral Equation (VIE) formulation. Novel numerical techniques have been incorporated in the VIE to increase the accuracy during the computation of the electromagnetic fields. This includes novel techniques introduced to treat the singularities of the Green's functions. Once the electromagnetic fields are computed accurately, corona effects in the relevant structures are investigated. For this, a numerical solution of the fre…
Contributions Regarding Incremental Forming Process of Bimetallic Sheets
2014
Incremental forming is a process with a high degree of novelty, so this paper describes first of all a series of theoretical principles of the incremental forming process. A main objective of the paper was the usage, as blanks in incremental forming process of bimetallic sheets. So the experimental researches have targeted the realising of parts with different shapes made from such type of blank. In the experimental researches was chosen as technological equipment for incremental forming the numerical controlled milling centre. The paper also present the tools used in incremental forming in order to obtain a hemispherical parts.
The reflection coefficient of a flared microstrip line radiating in an infinite parallel-plate waveguide
1993
In this article the reflection coefficient of a tapered microstrip line radiating in an infinite parallel-plate conducting waveguide is calculated. The reflection coefficient at the feed line is evaluated by using the aperture admittance of the horn and the scattering matrix of the continuous taper. The theoretical behavior of the aperture admittance is shown and the reflection coefficient of a microstrip horn radiating in the parallel-plate region of a bootlace lens is measured in order to verify the model. © 1993 John Wiley & sons, Inc.
A new bi-faced log periodic printed antenna
2005
In this paper, a new design of a broadband planar printed antenna based on the academic log periodic antenna is presented. The antenna consists of a series of printed dipoles, distributed on both faces of the substrate. Some configurations are explored, with a different number of printed dipoles. These are designed, simulated, fabricated, and measured. The calculated and measured return losses and radiation patterns are presented. The utility of the proposed antenna associated with its frequency bandwidth is better than 80%. The measured absolute gain is 6.5 dBi, and the front-to-back ratio is around 8 dB. The presented antenna should find wide applications in wireless communication systems…
