Voltammetric behavior and assay of the contraceptive drug levonorgestrel in bulk, tablets, and human serum at a mercury electrode.

2004

The cyclic voltammograms of levonorgestrel (LNG) in Britton-Robinson buffers of pH 2-11 at the hanging mercury drop electrode showed a single two-electron irreversible cathodic peak over the whole pH range. This peak may be attributed to the reduction of the 3-keto-delta-4-group in the A-ring of the LNG molecule. The interfacial adsorptive character of levonorgestrel onto the surface of the hanging mercury drop electrode was identified by means of both cyclic voltammetry and chronocoulometry techniques. A simple, sensitive, and selective square-wave adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetric procedure was developed for the quantitation of levonorgestrel. Under the optimized operational cond…

ONE-TROCAR VIDEO-ASSISTED STRIPPING TECHNIQUE FOR USE IN THE TREATMENT OF LARGE OVARIAN CYSTS IN INFANTS

2010

Abstract Background Management of ovarian cysts in infants is controversial; it can be conservative or surgical, and the management is determined by the cyst's size and sonographic features. Methods A surgical approach using a 10-mm umbilically placed operative laparoscope was taken in 3 female infants with antenatally diagnosed large, simple ovarian cysts. The contents of the cysts were partially aspirated and the cyst walls were stripped off the remaining ovarian parenchyma. No intraoperative or postoperative complications were recorded. Conclusions The one-trocar video-assisted stripping technique for large ovarian cysts in infants appears to be an ovarian-tissue-preserving procedure, an…

Miniaturization of rectangular microstrip patches using genetic algorithms

2002

This paper presents a new procedure for the miniaturization of rectangular microstrip patches based on genetic algorithms. The shape of a typical rectangular patch is modified in order to reduce its resonance frequency keeping the physical volume of the antenna constant. As an example, the resonance frequency of a square microstrip patch is reduced from 3 to 1.8 GHz. The patch is divided in 9/spl times/9 square cells. The genetic algorithm optimization procedure is subsequently used to remove some of the metallic cells. To validate the procedure an antenna prototype has been fabricated and tested. Good agreement is obtained between theoretical and experimental results.

Pulsating B and Be stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud

2008

Context: Stellar pulsations in main-sequence B-type stars are driven by the kappa-mechanism due to the Fe-group opacity bump. The current models do not predict the presence of instability strips in the B spectral domain at very low metallicities. As the metallicity of the SMC is lower than Z=0.005, it constitutes a very suitable object to test these predictions. Aims: The main objective is to investigate the existence of B-type pulsators at low metallicities, searching for short-term periodic variability in absorption-line B and Be stars in the SMC. The analysis has been performed in a sample of 313 B and Be stars with fundamental astrophysical parameters accurately determined from high-res…

Inverse-voltammetric determination of bismuth in biomaterials with computer assisted peak evaluation. part 3. Bismuth determination in wine, grapes a…

1989

The ultra trace element bismuth is regulary found in wine on an average of about 0.1 ppb. Very low bismuth contents were also determined in soil and different biomaterials. In spite of those very low quantities even speciation experiments show results, so far that about 90% of the bismuth in the grapes is water-soluble, resumably as saccharic acids. For detecting such low quantities a very sensitive method of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry was developped. The speciation experiments were carried out by fractional extraction.

A portable readout system for silicon microstrip sensors

2010

Abstract This system can measure the collected charge in one or two microstrip silicon sensors by reading out all the channels of the sensor(s), up to 256. The system is able to operate with different types (p- and n-type) and different sizes (up to 3 cm 2 ) of microstrip silicon sensors, both irradiated and non-irradiated. Heavily irradiated sensors will be used at the Super Large Hadron Collider, so this system can be used to research the performance of microstrip silicon sensors in conditions as similar as possible to the Super Large Hadron Collider operating conditions. The system has two main parts: a hardware part and a software part. The hardware part acquires the sensor signals eith…

Photochemistry and Redox Chemistry of an Unsymmetrical Bimetallic Copper(I) Complex

2016

The bimetallic copper(I) complex Cu2L2 (cis-1) is formed with high diasteroselectivity from [Cu(NCCH3)4][BF4] and HL (4-tert-butyl phenyl(pyrrolato-2-yl-methylene)amine) in a kinetically controlled reaction. cis-1 features a rather short Cu···Cu distance of 2.4756(6) A and is weakly emissive at room temperature in solution. Oxidatively triggered disproportionation of cis-1 yields elemental copper and the mononuclear copper(II) complex CuL2 (trans-2). One-electron reduction of trans-2 gives cuprate [2]– with a bent bis(pyrrolato) coordinated copper(I) entity. The imine donor atoms of [2]– can insert an additional copper(I) ion giving exclusively the bimetallic complex cis-1 closing the oxida…

Magnetic phase transition and magnetic bistability in oxamato-based CoIICuII bimetallic MOF thin films

2019

Abstract Thin films of an anionic oxamato-bridged cobalt(II)–copper(II) 3D MOF have been growth at 120 °C in DMSO through a one-pot reaction from Co(NO3)2·6H2O and (Me4N)2[Cu(2,6-Et2pa)2]·6H2O (2,6-Et2pa = N-2,6-diethylphenyloxamate) over Si(111) surfaces functionalized with carboxylic acid terminating groups. These heterobimetallic CoII2CuII3 MOF thin films (2) of about ten nanometers thickness show a ferrimagnetically ordered phase below ca. 10 K with a relatively large magnetic hysteresis similar to that of the bulk material of formula (Me4N)2[Co2Cu3(2,6-Et2pa)6]·5H2O (1).

Production of the charmed baryon $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ in $\pi^{-}$Cu and K$^{-}$Cu interactions at 230 GeV

1990

Abstract We present results from the NA32 experiment at CERN on the production characteristics of the charmed baryon Λ+c in 230 GeV π−Cu and K−Cu interactions. A high resolution vertex detector consisting of change-coupled devices and silicon microstrip detectors allowed the selection of a very clean sample of 154 Λ+c → pK−π+ (and charge conjugate) decays. Results on differential and integrated cross sections are given.

The AX-PET demonstrator—Design, construction and characterization

2011

Abstract Axial PET is a novel geometrical concept for Positron Emission Tomography (PET), based on layers of long scintillating crystals axially aligned with the bore axis. The axial coordinate is obtained from arrays of wavelength shifting (WLS) plastic strips placed orthogonally to the crystals. This article describes the design, construction and performance evaluation of a demonstrator set-up which consists of two identical detector modules, used in coincidence. Each module comprises 48 LYSO crystals of 100 mm length and 156 WLS strips. Crystals and strips are readout by Geiger-mode Avalanche Photo Diodes (G-APDs). The signals from the two modules are processed by fully analog front-end …
