Effects of illumination on the dielectric response of barium-strontium niobate ceramics
2013
A study of the effects of white light on the low and infra-low frequency relaxation of polarization in the barium-strontium niobate (SBN) ceramics is reported. The light is found considerably decreasing the contribution of space charge at temperatures corresponding to the range of the relaxor phase (it is, around the Tm).

Minute co-variations of Sr/Ca ratios and microstructures in the aragonitic shell of Cerastoderma edule (Bivalvia) – Are geochemical variations at the…
2017
Abstract It remains a challenging task to reconstruct water temperatures from Sr/Ca ratios of bivalve shells. Although in many aragonitic species, Sr/Ca is negatively correlated to temperature – which is expected based on abiogenic precipitation experiments, the incorporation of Sr into the shell of bivalves is strongly controlled by physiological processes and occurs away from the predicted thermodynamic equilibrium. Strontium-to-calcium ratios of aragonitic shells remain far below that of the ambient water. Moreover, Sr concentrations vary considerably among shell portions consisting of different microstructures and/or organic content. Values observed at annual growth lines and within the…
Templated Crystallisation of Calcium and Strontium Carbonates on Centred Rectangular Self-Assembled Monolayer Substrates
1998
SrCO3crystals display patterns of templating when grown on tailored self-assembled monolayers (right). As SrCO3 is isostructural with aragonite, comparison of the crystallisation of SrCO3 in the aragonite/strontianite modification with the crystallisation of CaCO3 in all three modifications might yield some insights into which factors are important for crystal growth.
Trace determination of 90Sr and 89Sr in environmental samples by collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy
1995
Collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy has been developed as a sensitive technique for fast trace detection of 90Sr and 89Sr in the environment. A detection limit for 90Sr of 107 atoms in the presence of 1017 atoms in the presence of 1017 atoms of stable Strontium has been achieved, while the applicability of the method has been demonstrated on real world samples. After collection and chemical separation, strontium is surface ionized, accelerated to 33keV and mass separated. The ions are neutralized and the emerging fast atoms interact with an argon ion laser beam (γ=364 nm) in a quasi‐collinear geometry. Optical excitation starts from the long‐lived 5s4d3 D2 state of strontium, which …
Trapping Amorphous Intermediates of Carbonates – A Combined Total Scattering and NMR Study
2018
Crystallization via metastable phases plays an important role in chemical manufacturing, biomineralization, and protein crystallization, but the kinetic pathways leading from metastable phases to the stable crystalline modifications are not well understood. In particular, the fast crystallization of amorphous intermediates makes a detailed characterization challenging. To circumvent this problem, we devised a system that allows trapping and stabilizing the amorphous intermediates of representative carbonates (calcium, strontium, barium, manganese, and cadmium). The long-term stabilization of these transient species enabled a detailed investigation of their composition, structure, and morpho…

“Celtic migrations”: Fact or fiction? Strontium and oxygen isotope analysis of the Czech cemeteries of Radovesice and Kutná Hora in Bohemia
2014
Strontium and oxygen isotope analysis of human remains from the early La Tene (fourth/third century BC) Czech cemeteries of Radovesice I (RAD I), Radovesice II (RAD II), and Kutna Hora were conducted to investigate the importance of residential changes during the period of the historic “Celtic migrations”. In the initial phases (LT A/B), the grave goods of these cemeteries are typical for the core area of the La Tene culture, while around 300 BC (LT B2) an alteration occurs and typical Bohemian styles arise, and connections to Moravia and the Danubian region become visible. The strontium isotope ratios are highly varied with 87Sr/86Sr values between 0.7062 and 0.7153 in Radovesice, and betw…
An X-ray powder diffraction study of lanthanum–strontium ferromanganites
2001
Abstract Various lanthanum–strontium ferromanganites (La 1− x Sr x )(Mn 1− y Fe y )O 3± δ (LSMF) with x =0.2, 0.5 and 0.7 and y =0.2, 0.5 and 0.8 were prepared by a glycine–nitrate combustion route and conditioned into two different oxygenation states which are likely to be encountered in cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). Crystal symmetries for both the low and the fully oxygenated states were determined by X-ray diffractometry. Most perovskite compositions crystallized in either cubic or rhombohedral symmetry with the exception of La 0.5 Sr 0.5 Mn 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3± δ , where a transition from rhombohedral to cubic occurred in going from the full to the low oxygenation stat…
A comparative study of the surface and bulk properties of lanthanum-strontium-manganese oxides La1âxSrxMnO3±δ as a function of Sr-content, oxygen…
1999
Abstract The properties of the perovskite-type La 1− x Sr x MnO 3± δ oxides (0≤ x ≤1) are related to the reversible redox reaction of manganese ions Mn 3+ ↔Mn 4+ . This reaction plays an essential role both in the interfacial transfers and transport properties and depends on relative cation concentrations and experimental conditions. In this paper we present experimental investigations aiming to determine, to compare and to control some of the surface and bulk properties of these oxides. The bulk and surface Mn 4+ contents were investigated by thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) in hydrogen and X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS) respectively. With a finely divided La 0.8 Sr 0.2 MnO 3 powde…
