Non-linear dielectric behaviour and glass phase in Sr1-xCaxTiO3(x= 0.002 andx= 0.003)

1999

This work reports a study of the temperature and electric field dependence of the dielectric constant of strontium calcium titanate. The first part of the paper is focused on the analysis of a mean-field model for the polar clusters generated by the random impurities of calcium. It is shown that the dipolar moments within each cluster can be represented by an equivalent quantum two-level system. General expressions for the temperature and field dependence of the Edward-Anderson order parameter and of the electrical polarization are given. Analytical solutions are also obtained in the limit of high temperatures and in the limit of high tunnelling frequencies. The second part of the work repo…

Mean field behaviour of Sr1−xCaxTiO3

1996

A systematic analysis of the dielectric constant as a function of temperature in SrTiO 3 : Ca crystals with Ca content of 0.0020, 0.0032, 0.0055. 0.0058, and 0.0110 shows that the Barrett parameters are clearly modified by the Ca content. We have found for each Ca concentration the temperature below which the contribution of the Ca induced clusters becomes sizeable. The values obtained for the fitted parameters in the Barrett formula allow us to trace a boundary between the low-temperature quantum paraelectric and ferroelectric regimes.

Semi-empirical indo and shell-model calculations for perovskites

1999

Abstract Structural, phonon and some elastic and dielectric properties have been calculated for various paraelectric or ferroelectric phases of the perovskites KNbO3 and SrTiO3, using either the semi-empirical INDO (Intermediate Neglect of Differential Overlap) method or a temperature-dependent shell model. The INDO method was used to calculate the energy changes resulting from [100], [110] or [111] displacements of Nb atoms in the cubic perovskite cell of KNbO3, at 0K. The conventional shell model gives a good account of the elastic, dielectric and phonon properties of the cubic phase of strontium titanate at room temperature, but difficulties remain in modelling the permittivity and elast…

Temperature and electric field dependence of the permittivity of Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3 films epitaxially grown on cuprate electrodes

1999

Abstract Cuprate, high-temperature superconductors and perovskite ferroelectrics have similar crystal structures and chemical constituents and, therefore, it can be advantageous to deposit epitaxial trilayer capacitors with high-Tc electrodes and operate these at room temperature, well above the transition temperature Tc, in order to achieve a high dielectric constant, tunability, and relatively low microwave loss. Epitaxial heterostructures (200 nm)YBa2Cu3O7−δ/(600 nm)Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3/(200 nm)YBa2Cu3O7−δ and (200 nm)NdBa2Cu3O7−δ/(600 nm)Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3/(200 nm)NdBa2Cu3O7−δ were laser deposited on (100)LaAlO3 substrates. The relative dielectric permittivity e/e0 of Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3 was in the ra…

Relaxor Properties of Barium-Strontium Niobate Ceramics

2011

Dielectric properties of Sr0.75Ba0.25Nb2O6 (SBN-75) ceramics in the range of low and infra-low frequencies are reported. The values of ϵ′ and, in particular of ϵ″, in ceramics are found to be much smaller compared with SBN-75 single crystals below the temperature (Тm) of the ϵ′(T) maximum a sharp increase of the values of dielectric parameters observed above Тm being also different from their thermal behaviour in single crystals. The broadening of phase transition and dependence of the response on sample history are similar to the features observed in other relaxor materials.

Self-assembled monolayers based spintronics: from ferromagnetic surface functionalization to spin-dependent transport.

2016

Chemically functionalized surfaces are studied for a wide range of applications going from medicine to electronics. Whereas non-magnetic surfaces have been widely studied, functionalization of magnetic surfaces is much less common and has almost never been used for spintronics applications. In this article we present the functionalization of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3, a ferromagnetic oxide, with self-assembled monolayers for spintronics. La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 is the prototypical half-metallic manganite used in spintronics studies. First, we show that La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 can be functionalized by alkylphosphonic acid molecules. We then emphasize the use of these functionalized surfaces in spintronics devices such a…

Trace element data covering 96-7 ka BP from stalagmite CM (Santo Tomas Cave, Cuba)

2020

We present a new speleothem trace element and stable isotope record, which extends previous paleoclimate evidence from Cuban speleothems to the last 96 ka. Stable isotope samples were micromilled at a resolution of 0.10-0.33mm, and measured using an IRMS equipped with a Gasbench. Line scans of Element/Calcium ratios of the speleothem were measured by laser ablation ICPMS and were reduced to the resolution of the stable isotope records.

Luminescence in SrTiO3and LiNbO3Crystals Under High Density Pulsed Electron Excitation

2004

The time-resolved luminescence as well as stationary excited luminescence in SrTiO3 (undoped, Nb and Pb doped) and LiNbO3 (congruent and stoichiometric) single crystals was studied. The charge-transfer vibronic exciton in the regular oxy-anion site is suggested to be responsible for luminescence bands at 2.8 eV and 2.75 eV for SrTiO3 and LiNbO3 crystals respectively. It is suggested that luminescence band observed in SrTiO3 at ∼2.2-2.3 eV above 80 K possibly is due to some defect common for all SrTiO3 crystals studied.
