Carbon and Oxygen Isotope Signals from the Callovian–Oxfordian in French Sedimentary Basins
2013
3 pages; International audience; High-resolution carbon and oxygen isotope data from the Paris Basin and the Subalpine Basin (France) are available in a precise biostratigraphic framework for the Callovian-Oxfordian stages. A biostratigraphically well-constrained δ13C curve, derived from bulk carbonates in the Paris Basin and the Subalpine Basin, is provided in order to document carbon-cycle evolution and to serve as a chemostratigraphic reference for the Callovian-Oxfordian in the Tethyan domain. Sea-temperature reconstructions, using diagenetically screened belemnite and oyster data, reveal major climate perturbations at the Middle-Late Jurassic transition.
Continental late Pliocene paleoclimatic history recorded in the Bresse Basin (France)
1992
International audience; We present results to show that the Beaune P & C borehole, cored in the Bresse Basin (France), records late Pliocene climatic variations. Pollen analysis allows precise correlations with northern and southern European stratigraphies. Using Kukla et al.'s (1981) climate index, we show that cold climate phases occur during the Brunssumian, at around 3.2, 3.6 and 5.2 Myr B.P., respectively, in agreement with Atlantic core results. The onset of a general cooling trend is felt early in the Reuverian, at about 3 Myr B.P. which corresponds to the end of a warm event characterized by high percentages of oak. This is followed by minor climatic pulses of increasing magnitude s…
Calcareous nannofossil response to Late Cretaceous climate change in the eastern Tethys (Zagros Basin, Iran)
2020
Abstract Coniacian to Maastrichtian changes in calcareous nannofossil assemblages have been investigated in the eastern Tethyan Shahneshin section (central Zagros Basin, Iran). The nannofossil assemblages are mainly composed of Watznaueria spp. (avg. 54%), Retecapsa spp (avg. 7.9%), Cribrosphaerella ehrenbergii (avg. 7.7%) and Micula spp. (avg. 5.7%). Throughout the late Campanian, there is a trend to lower abundances in Watznaueria spp. together with increasing abundances of C. ehrenbergii and Arkhangelskiella cymbiformis, which are considered in this basin as the main cool-water taxa. Our results reveal that, despite a diagenetic impact on calcareous nannoflora, a number of primary paleoe…
Planktonic foraminifera biozones and isotope stratigraphy of the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary in the western part of the Kopet-Dagh Basin, NE Iran
2018
Abstract A biostratigraphic study based on the planktonic foraminifera and isotope stratigraphy of the Cenomanian-Turonian interval has been undertaken in the western part of the Kopet-Dagh Basin (NE Iran). In this research, two stratigraphic sections including: Maraveh Tappeh and Qareh Galdy have been sampled and studied. Based on planktonic foraminifera, three biozones were assigned to this interval. These are the Rotalipora cushmani Zone, Whiteinella archaeocretacea Zone and Helvetoglobotruncana helvetica Zone, These biostratigraphic data confirm a gradual faunal turnover of planktonic foraminifera, at the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary in Whiteinella archaeocretacea Zone characterized by:…
Phytoplankton distribution in Mar Menor coastal lagoon (SE Spain) during 2017.
2020
The Mar Menor is a Spanish coastal lagoon of great ecological and economic interest. The agricultural and tourist activities developed in the surroundings of the lagoon, together with the modifications in its channels of connection with the Mediterranean Sea, have notably affected the quality of its waters, which is altering the natural balance of the ecosystem. In this work, an analysis of the density of phytoplankton present in the lagoon between the months of May to December 2017 was carried out. The results indicate a significant increase in phytoplankton density between 2500 and 67,300 cells/mL compared to previous data of 1981 (between 10 and 500 cells/mL). Concentration of Chlorophyl…
Albian flora from Archingeay-Les Nouillers (Charente-Maritime): comparison and synthesis of Cretaceous meso- and macro-remains from the Aquitaine Bas…
2017
International audience; Over recent decades, diverse structures ascribed to angiosperms, bennettitaleans, conifers, cycads, ginkgophytes and pteridosperms have been reported from the Cretaceous deposits of the Aquitaine Basin (southwestern France). However, Albian macrofloras remain uncommon in Aquitania as well as in France. The clay from the Archingeay-Les Nouillers quarries is one of the rare deposits of the Aquitaine Basin to yield Albian plant meso- and macro-remains. Although Albian plant-bearing beds are not accessible any more in these quarries, samples collected from excavations conducted at the end of the XXth century were deposited in the collections of the University of Rennes 1…
Trackways of Arthropleura from the Late Pennsylvanian of Graissessac (Hérault, southern France)
2019
International audience; The Late Pennsylvanian deposits of the Graissessac Basin (southern France) are well known for their abundant and diversified plant remains. Here we report on seven trackways of giant millipede-like arthropods recently discovered from two surfaces. These traces are ascribed to Diplichnites cuithensis. The trackways are up to 200 cm long, up to 36 cm wide, straight to curved and consist of two parallel rows of numerous and elongated appendage imprints that are oriented perpendicular to the midline. Although body fossils of giant millipede-like arthropods remain unknown in sediments from this basin, the morphology and size of the trace fossils indicate that the trails w…
Early Miocene marsupialiforms, gymnures, and hedgehogs from Ribesalbes-Alcora Basin (Spain)
2020
AbstractMaterials from the localities of Araia d'Alcora in the Ribesalbes-Alcora Basin (Spain, early Miocene, Biozone C, MN4) have yielded an assemblage of erinaceids and metatherians, relatively rich for an Iberian site. The most common erinaceid is the gymnureGalerix symeonidisiDoukas, 1986, present in almost all of the studied sites. Other erinaceids in the faunal list are possibly an indeterminate species of the generaLantanotheriumFilhol, 1888 andAtelerixPomel, 1848, in what constitutes one of their oldest occurrences in Europe. Metatherians are represented by the herpetotheriidAmphiperatherium frequens erkertshofense(Koenigswald, 1970). The material described here was partially publis…
Biochemical characterization of the skeletal matrix of the massive coral, Porites australiensis - The saccharide moieties and their localization.
2018
11 pages; International audience; To construct calcium carbonate skeletons of sophisticated architecture, scleractinian corals secrete an extracellular skeletal organic matrix (SOM) from aboral ectodermal cells. The SOM, which is composed of proteins, saccharides, and lipids, performs functions critical for skeleton formation. Even though polysaccharides constitute the major component of the SOM, its contribution to coral skeleton formation is poorly understood. To this end, we analyzed the SOM of the massive colonial coral, Porites australiensis, the skeleton of which has drawn great research interest because it records environmental conditions throughout the life of the colony. The coral …
Whole-genome resequencing of Cucurbita pepo morphotypes to discover genomic variants associated with morphology and horticulturally valuable traits
2019
[EN] Cucurbita pepo contains two cultivated subspecies, each of which encompasses four fruit-shape morphotypes (cultivar groups). The Pumpkin, Vegetable Marrow, Cocozelle, and Zucchini Groups are of subsp. pepo and the Acorn, Crookneck, Scallop, and Straightneck Groups are of subsp. ovifera. Recently, a de novo assembly of the C. pepo subsp. pepo Zucchini genome was published, providing insights into its evolution. To expand our knowledge of evolutionary processes within C. pepo and to identify variants associated with particular morphotypes, we performed whole-genome resequencing of seven of these eight C. pepo morphotypes. We report for the first time whole-genome resequencing of the four…
