A multi-analytical non-invasive and micro-invasive approach to canvas oil paintings. General considerations from a specific case
2017
Abstract The investigation of artwork to understand story, state of conservation and to know about the composing materials is an issue that is getting growing attention in specialized literature. From a methodological point of view the scientific community is trying to reach a common proposal that could contribute to define a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the application of portable non-invasive and microinvasive techniques for in-situ analyses. In this paper the oil painting on canvas “St. Girolamo nello studio” by Nicolo Buttafoco was investigated to known the materials and techniques used by the artist as well as to evaluate its preservation status. The survey has been conducted…
Beyond the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic: opportunities to optimize clinical trial implementation in oncology.
2021
Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic affected millions of people globally with lasting effects on society, patients, investigators and health institutions. Clinical trials, our best tool to improve cancer treatment for patients through testing the clinical value of a new treatment, have been affected by the pandemic. The pandemic footprint represents both a risk of compromising development of new therapies and an opportunity to elicit discussion over a portfolio of broader reforms, applicable irrespective of pandemics, in order to improve the design and implementation of clinical trials in oncology. The administrative load should be reduced, without affecting the quality of research and principle…
Como gerentes de nível médio contribuem para o processo de formação de estratégia: conexão entre processos estratégicos e práticas estratégicas
2010
The role of middle management is essential when managing integrative and emergent strategy formation processes. We stand out the importance of its role connecting micro and macro organizational level offering a very important contribution when examining the strategy-as-practice perspective and integrative strategy formation process. To check it out we adopted a qualitative methodology droving a case analysis in a Spanish University. Data was collected by means of personal interviews with members of dif…
Cuerpo cincelado
2012
Taking an approach that draws on the conclusions reached by PostColonial studies and by Gender studies into the area of literary criticism, the text points out the assumptions from which Eliade builds the figure of oriental women in his novel…
Validation of the Working Alliance Inventory–Observer Short Version with male intimate partner violence offenders
2018
The working alliance is a key element to increase intimate partner violence (IPV) offenders' motivation, adherence to treatment, and active participation in batterer intervention programs (BIPs). The objective of the present study is to assess the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Working Alliance Inventory-Observer Short Version (WAI-O-S) with a sample of IPV offenders. The sample was 140 men convicted for IPV and court-mandated to a community-based BIP. Inter-rater agreement and reliability were evaluated by computing the intraclass correlation coefficient. To test the latent structure a Bayesian confirmatory factor analysis approach was used. To test criterion-related v…
The Spanish validation of the Short Health Anxiety Inventory: Psychometric properties and clinical utility
2019
The Short Health Anxiety Inventory (SHAI) is a widely used self-report instrument to evaluate health anxiety. To assess the SHAI's factor structure, psychometric properties, and accuracy in differentiating Spanish non-clinical individuals from patients with severe health anxiety or hypochondriasis.A total of 342 community participants (61.6% women; The original two-factor structure was selected as the best structure, based on its parsimony and empirical support (Factor 1: Illness likelihood; Factor 2: Negative consequences of illness). Moreover, the Spanish version of the SHAI demonstrated good construct and concurrent and discriminant validity, and internal consistency. A cutoff of 40.5 (to…
Victimization, loneliness, overt and relational violence at the school from a gender perspective
2015
This ex post facto study analyzes both the direct relationships between victimization and overt and relational violent behavior of students adolescents as the indirect relationships between these variables through the classroom environment, the loneliness, the nonconformist ideal reputation and transgression of social norms. The sample consisted of 1,795 adolescents (48% females) aged 11 to 18 years (M = 14.2, SD = 1.68). We used a structural equation model to analyze the effect of classroom environment and victimization in violent manifest and relational behavior. The results found that a direct positive relationship between victimization and relational violent behavior and a direct negati…
Barbara Sokołowska Brukalski. Graphic Analysis of the House on Niegolewskiego Street
2017
The project analyzed in this paper by the critical and digital redrawing is the House on Niegolewskiego Street of 1927–28, designed by Barbara Sokołowska for her and her husband, Stanislaw Brukalski, inspired by the Neoplasticism ideas, the paintings of Mondrian and De Stijl. In its details the house seems to recall that one in Utrecht by G.T. Rietveld of 1924, with a very large living room, a studio overlooking a double height and a spiral stair connecting the two floors into one space defined by translated planes and pure volumes.
On the nature of the background behind Mona Lisa
2015
One of the many questions surrounding Leonardo’s Mona Lisa concerns the landscape visible in the portrait’s background: Does it depict an imagination of Leonardo’s mind, a real world landscape or the motif of a plane canvas that hung in Leonardo’s studio, behind the sitter? By analyzing divergences between the Mona Lisa and her Prado double that was painted in parallel but from another perspective the authors found mathematical evidence for the motif-canvas hypothesis: The landscape in the Prado version is 10% increased but otherwise nearly identical with the Louvre one, which indicates both painters used the same plane motif-canvas as reference.
