I tamburi a cornice in Sicilia

2015

Queste, sebbene affini a quelle impiegate in altre regioni italian…

Settore L-ART/08 - EtnomusicologiaFirst evidences of frame drums in Sicily trace back to the V century b.C. Tambourines have been recorded until today by paintings archive documentation observations provided by foreign travellers folkloric literature and quite widely by modern ethnomusicology through audio and video recordings collected on the field. Morphology performance techniques repertoires decorations and social use of tambourines in Sicily refer to the wider context of Italian (central-southern part) and Mediteranean area but with some peculiarities chiefly referring to performance skills. Though similar to the techniques practised in other Italian regions in Sicily we can observe a typical style that can be connected with a common historical background with the Arabic-Islamic world.

Style As A Common Currency And Its Aesthetic Consequences: Appropriation of Forms and Procedures in Neo-conceptual Art of Late 20th Century

2018

The present paper is structured in four interconnected parts that work towards the possible understanding of the concept of style from the perspective of contemporary artists. The temporal scope of the research covers the 1980s and the following decade, though it focuses particularly on the interval between 1988 and 1992, since these years are widely regarded as the seminal period for young British artists. Taking the UK as an example, the geographic scope is concentrated on London and Glasgow, since the latter city rose into prominence as the only true counterpart to the English capital’s art scene in the period under consideration.

Does Attentional Style Moderate the Relationship between Time Perspective and Social Network Addiction? A Cross-Sectional Study on a Sample of Social…

2021

The present study investigates the role of attentional style as a moderator variable between temporal perspective and social network addiction, since little is known about users’ cognitive variables involved in this kind of addictive behavior. To achieve this goal, a sample of 186 volunteers and anonymous social networking sites users (M = 34%; F = 66%; Mage = 22.54 years; SD = 3.94; range: 18 ÷ 45 years) participated in a cross-sectional study. All participants filled out self-report instruments measuring temporal perspective, internal vs. external attentional style, and social network addiction. The results align with the previous literature and show that present fatalistic and past negat…

The Italian version of the Cognitive Style Indicator and its association with decision-making preferences

2018

By adopting a more flexible view, Cools and Van den Broeck (2007) developed the Cognitive Style Indicator (CoSI) which includes three cognitive dimensions: Creating (flexible, open-ended and inventive), Knowing (emphasizing facts, details, objectivity, and rationality), and Planning (guided by preferences for certainty and well-structured information). The first aim of this research was to validate the three factor structure of the CoSI within the Italian context, whereas the second was to verify whether cognitive styles, as measured by the CoSI, accounted for individual differences in decision-making processes. Two studies were conducted using two different samples (n = 549 and n = 397). C…

Cognitive vulnerability to depressive symptoms in children: the protective role of self-efficacy beliefs in a multi-wave longitudinal study.

2014

The current multi-wave longitudinal study on childhood examined the role that social and academic self-efficacy beliefs and cognitive vulnerabilities play in predicting depressive symptoms in response to elevations in idiographic stressors. Children (N = 554; males: 51.4 %) attending second and third grade completed measures of depressive symptoms, negative cognitive styles, negative life events, and academic and social self-efficacy beliefs at four time-points over 6 months. Results showed that high levels of academic and social self-efficacy beliefs predicted lower levels of depressive symptoms, whereas negative cognitive styles about consequences predicted higher depression. Furthermore,…

Environmental Stimulus Perception as an Incidence Factor in Social Interaction and Personality Development

2019

This paper seeks to analyze the impact of perceptual process, as a way of perceiving ourselves and others, as well as personality development and social attitudes which emerge from early interactions in the primary environment. Although many studies have highlighted the importance of early social interactions for both the genetic and psychobiological components of personality development, there is actually little data that examines the influence of these genetic factors on this process. This study focuses on the genetic bases of the perception process and its role in how we experience emotions and how we perceive the surrounding environment, starting with early interactions with caregivers.…

Mothering, fathering, and Italian adolescents' problem behaviors and life satisfaction: Dimensional and typological approach

2013

In this study, we explored the relationship between mothering, fathering and Italian adolescents’ problem behaviors and life satisfaction by using both typological and dimensional approaches. From a typological perspective, we examined variations in adolescent adjustment as a function of maternal and paternal parenting styles. From a dimensional perspective, we examined the relationships between crucial dimensions of perceived mothering and fathering (acceptance and strictness) and their contribution to adolescents’ adjustment, for girls and boys separately. A total of 213 adolescents (99 boys and 114 girls), aged from 14 to 16 years of age, completed self-report measures on perceived paren…

Bicultural couples from Family to Community: Educational Styles and Place Identity

2014

The paper examines the dynamics of bicultural couples in which one partner is autochthonous and the other is of foreign nationality. Two levels of analysis were considered: a macro level studying the place identity in reference to the general social context and the residential neighbourhood, in particular; the second level refers to the dynamics of the couple and examines the strategies for managing differences between partners and the educational styles adopted in the presence of children. According to the basic assumptions of qualitative research, 22 mixed couples living in Sicily were interviewed. To analyse the contents which emerged from interviews the Atlas.ti software was used. Ways to become old: Role of lifestyle in modulation of the hallmarks of aging

2021

Abstract Lifestyle represents one of the most relevant aspects in aging research since it is an important modifiable factor that affects aging process. A healthy lifestyle can limit the damage caused by environmental influences that face us each day. As gerontology says, there are two ways to become old, without success (unsuccessful aging), manifested by people that develop one or more age-related diseases, and with success (successful aging), defined as the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability, which enables well-being in older age. Among the lifestyle factors that may influence successful aging and longevity, physical activity and healthy dietary habits have a gre…
