Is the selective information processing of food and body words specific to patients with eating disorders?

The selective processing of food- and body size-related information was investigated using a modified version of the Stroop task. Anorexic and bulimic patients and matched female controls were compared on the basis of categorical (diagnosis), dimensional (restraint and drive for thinness) criteria, or both. The findings suggest that the phenomenon assessed by the Stroop paradigm is not exclusive to patients with a clinical eating disorder, but patients and those control subjects who are restrained eaters with a high drive for thinness share a selective processing of information related to shape and eating. Coffee and endothelial function: a battle between caffeine and antioxidants ?

Although coffee is largely consumed by adults in Western countries, controversy exists about its impact on the cardiovascular system. We recently demonstrated that caffeinated and decaffeinated espresso coffee have different acute effects on endothelial function in healthy subjects, measured using flow-mediated dilation (FMD) of the brachial artery. In this study, we measured the anti-oxidant capacity of two coffee substances in terms of free stable radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl 50% inhibition (I(50) DPPH). This article reports experimental data related to the research article entitled “Different effectiveness of two pastas supplemented with either lipophilic or hydrophilic/phenolic antioxidants in affecting serum as evaluated by the novel Antioxidant/Oxidant Balance approach” (M.N. Laus, M. Soccio, M. Alfarano, A. Pasqualone, M.S. Lenucci, G. Di Miceli, D. Pastore, 2016) [1]. Par Gada augu 2020 tika izvēlēts Latvijas aizsargājamais augs ruiša pūķgalve, ko Latvijā pirmo reizi atradis dabaspētnieks Eduards Lēmanis (1841 – 1902) 1883. gadā Antonopolē. Tas kopā ar citiem ruiša pūķgalves herbārija paraugiem glabājas Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās. Tie ir gan Latvijā, gan Igaunijā ievākti eksemplāri laika posmā no 1848. līdz 1977. gadam.
