The discovery, distribution, and diversity of DNA viruses associated with Drosophila melanogaster in Europe
2021
Drosophila melanogaster is an important model for antiviral immunity in arthropods, but very few DNA viruses have been described from the family Drosophilidae. This deficiency limits our opportunity to use natural host-pathogen combinations in experimental studies, and may bias our understanding of the Drosophila virome. Here, we report fourteen DNA viruses detected in a metagenomic analysis of 6668 pool-sequenced Drosophila, sampled from forty-seven European locations between 2014 and 2016. These include three new nudiviruses, a new and divergent entomopoxvirus, a virus related to Leptopilina boulardi filamentous virus, and a virus related to Musca domestica salivary gland hypertrophy viru…
The use of gerunds and infinitives in perceptive constructions
2016
In this article I compare the use of gerunds with perceptive verbs in Spanish and in Gardenese, a Rhaeto-Romance variety spoken in Northern Italy: perceptive gerunds are used as secondary predicates in Spanish, but as defective TP-complements in Gardenese. Following Rizzi’s (2014) account of parametric variation, I propose that the differences are due to the interplay of three parameters: a [+progressive] feature on Gardenese perception verbs, the pure lexical status of perception verbs in Gardenese and a [+Agreement] feature on Spanish gerunds. The discussion of the parameters involved leads to more general considerations, as a new proposal for the structure of perceptive ECMs in Romance, …
Spontaneous Endoreduplication, Tetraploidy and Chromosome Breakage in Lymphocyte Cultures from Healthy Subjects
1984
SUMMARY42,703 metaphases of peripheral lymphocytes from 20 healthy subjects (10 women and 10 men) were examined in order to establish the frequency of endoreduplicated cells and of tetraploid cells without diplochromosomes. Frequencies were found to be 0.016% and 0.112%, respectively. The two sexes did not differ as to the frequency of tetraploid cells, with and without diplochromosomes (about 0.13% in either sex). In a total of 2,135 well spread metaphases examined, 26 cells (i.e. 1.2%) with chromosomal breaks were found. Again, no significant differences between the two sexes were found as to such chromosome abnormalities.
Tipogrāfs Gerhards Šrēders un latīņu okazionālā dzeja
2019
Rakstā atainota Rīgas pilsētas otrā tipogrāfa Gerharda Šrēdera (Gerhard Schröder, ?-1657) darbības vide un dzīvesgājums. Vispirms iezīmēti grāmatiespiešanas pirmsākumi Rīgā, tipogrāfa pienākumi, pasūtījumu klāsts, atlīdzība par darbu un iegūstamās privilēģijas. Tad aplūkoti priekšnoteikumi, kas Gerhardam Šrēderam bija jāizpilda, lai iegūtu Rātes atļauju pārņemt darbu Nikolaja Mollīna (Niclaes Mollijns, ap 1550/1555-1625) spiestuvē. Tipogrāfijas kvalitātes un iespieddarbu specifikas raksturošanai pētīti okazionālās dzejas iespieddarbi: apskatīts poligrāfiskais izpildījums (vienā iespieddarbā izmantoto dažādo izmēru un veidu burtu komplektu skaits, dekoratīvo elementu, kokgrebumu un gravīru p…

Life-Space Mobility and Active Aging as Factors Underlying Quality of Life Among Older People Before and During COVID-19 Lockdown in Finland—A Longit…
2020
Abstract Background Social distancing, that is, avoiding places with other people and staying at home, was recommended to prevent viral transmission during the COVID-19 pandemic. Potentially, reduced out-of-home mobility and lower activity levels among older people may lower their quality of life (QOL). We studied cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of and changes in life-space mobility, active aging, and QOL during COVID-19 social distancing compared to 2 years before. Methods Altogether 809 community-living participants initially aged 75, 80, or 85 years of our active aging study (AGNES) conducted in 2017–2018 took part in the current AGNES-COVID-19 survey in May and June 2020. …
Nusidawimai szwento Karawimo [Geschichte des heiligen Krieges]
1814
Granger causality analysis of sleep brain-heart interactions
2014
We studied the networks of Granger causality (GC) between the time series of cardiac vagal autonomic activity and brain wave activities, measured respectively as the normalized high frequency (HF) component of heart rate variability and EEG power in the δ, θ, α, Ï, β bands, computed in 10 healthy subjects during sleep. GC analysis was performed by vector autoregressive modeling, and significance of each link in the network was assessed using F-statistics. The whole-night analysis revealed the existence of a fully connected network of brain-heart and brain-brain interactions, with the à EEG power acting as a hub which conveys the largest number of GC links between the heart and brain n…
