In this chapter, the author develops a topic undertheorized in Bourdieu’s work: physical violence. He presents the key points of an esthetic theory of the sublime and develops an alternative theory of the sublime, which draws on structural constructivism and Taoist political theory. El presente trabajo se aboca al análisis de las transposiciones que realizara Alberto Breccia de Los mitos de Chtulhu de H. P Lovecraft durante la década del setenta. Proponemos que efectivamente existe una relación entre esta etapa de mayor experimentación formal de Breccia —cuyas técnicas se vinculan estrechamente con las vanguardias pictóricas— y sus elecciones temáticas, es decir, la selección de ciertos clásicos literarios vinculados al horror y a la literatura gótica a partir de los cuales el autor llevará a cabo sus innovadoras versiones historietísticas. En esta investigación hemos pretendido averiguar por qué en la cultura visual posmoderna occidental se multiplican imágenes e historias de un tipo de personaje femenino contradictorio y ambiguo, que hemos denominado como heroína siniestra. Una figura contradictoria en sí misma, pues comporta dentro de sí dos tipos de personajes que por definición son opuestos (la mujer siniestra y la heroína), por lo que hemos tenido que indagar primero en la construcción histórica, simbólica y cultural de los dos tipos de personajes de forma separada, para entender así sus características visuales y sus motivaciones psicológicas. Sublime and grotesque : exploring the liminal positioning of clowns between oppositional aesthetic categories

The horror clown is a potential rooted in the liminalities that are an integral part of the clown figure per se. Drawing on anthropological work and the study of popular culture, this paper argues that clowns can be placed between different dualistic frames such as the sacred and the profane, the sublime and the grotesque, and fear and disgust. This positioning and the ways in which clowns operate between these categories are transmitted aesthetically.
