PurposeThis paper discusses the challenges that two doctoral researchers faced while researching religious minorities and women in a culturally sensitive society such as Pakistan. Pro gradu -tutkielma käsittelee yhtäältä seksuaali- ja sukupuolivähemmistöjen historian tutkimusta ja toistaalta seksuaali- ja sukupuolivähemmistöihin kuuluvien ihmisten menneisyyden tallentamista julkisiin arkistoihin. Tutkielma kysyy, millaista lähdeaineistoa tutkimus käyttää, millaisia eroja tutkimuksissa on kansainvälisesti verrattuna, miten lähteitä säilytetään, miten arkistointi on kehittynyt ja miten sitä voisi jatkossa kehittää.
