Chemie an starren Grenzflächen, 12.

Chemistry on Rigid Interfaces, 12. — Reducti…

Tracing anthropogenic thallium in soil using stable isotope compositions.

2014

Thallium stable isotope data are used in this study, for the first time, to apportion Tl contamination in soils. In the late 1970s, a cement plant near Lengerich, Germany, emitted cement kiln dust (CKD) with high Tl contents, due to cocombustion of Tl-enriched pyrite roasting waste. Locally contaminated soil profiles were obtained down to 1 m depth and the samples are in accord with a binary mixing relationship in a diagram of Tl isotope compositions (expressed as e(205)Tl, the deviation of the (205)Tl/(203)Tl ratio of a sample from the NIST SRM 997 Tl isotope standard in parts per 10(4)) versus 1/[Tl]. The inferred mixing endmembers are the geogenic background, as defined by isotopically l…

Organic matter quantity and quality, metals availability and foraminiferal assemblages as environmental proxy applied to the Bizerte Lagoon (Tunisia)

2016

International audience; This study analyzes the benthic trophic state of Bizerte Lagoon (Tunisia) based on the total organic matter and the bioavailability of biopolymeric carbon including proteins (PTN), carbohydrates (CHO), lipids (LIP), chlorophyll a, as well as bacteria counts. The overall simultaneously extracted metals (SEM), and acid volatile sulfides (AVS) as well as the SEM/AVS ratio indicative of the toxicity of the sediments also were analyzed aiming to study their impact in the dimension, composition and structure of both dead and living benthic foraminiferal assemblages. In the studied sites TOC content is relatively high and the PTN/CHO values indicate that they can be consider…

Quantification of poisons for Ziegler Natta catalysts and effects on the production of polypropylene by gas chromatographic with simultaneous detecti…

2020

[EN] This article describes a new simultaneous method for the analysis of sulfur-type poisons, hydrocarbons and permanent gases affecting the productivity of the Ziegler Natta catalyst during the synthesis of polypropylene on an industrial scale in a fluidized-bed reactor. The identification was achieved employing a configuration of the seven-valve chromatographic system, with events at different times, allowing distribution of the sample through multiple columns, and finally reaching the helium ionization detectors of pulsed discharge, flame ionization and mass spectrometry. The results obtained show a good precision of the method used because the variability was less than 1.02% in area an…

Production of sulfur flavors by ten strains of Geotrichum candidum

1999

ABSTRACT Ten strains of Geotrichum candidum were studied on a liquid cheese model medium for the production of sulfur compounds which contribute to the aroma of cheeses. The volatile components produced by each cultured strain were extracted by dynamic headspace extractions, separated and quantified by gas chromatography (GC), and identified by GC-mass spectrometry. It was shown that four strains of this microorganism produced significant quantities of S -methyl thioacetate, S -methyl thiopropionate, S -methyl thiobutanoate, S -methyl thio iso butanoate, S -methyl thio iso valerate, and S -methyl thiohexanoate. This is the first example of the production of these compounds by a fungus. In a…

Sensing Chiral Drugs by Using CdSe/ZnS Nanoparticles Capped withN-Acetyl-L-Cysteine Methyl Ester

2013

Chiral quantum dots (QDs), differing in their core or shell size and, consequently, in their optical properties, were synthesized by the treatment of commercially available amine-capped quantum dots with methyl ester N-acetyl-L-cysteine (CysP). Interestingly, their colloidal methanol solutions remain stable for several months. Their NMR and IR spectra were in accordance with CysP binding to the QD surface through two anchoring groups; its thiolate (strongly bound) and the carbonyl group of its ester (weaker bound) group, whereas their circular dichroism (CD) spectra showed a new broad redshifted band, suggesting that the attachment to the QD surface modified the conformational equilibrium t…

On the use of PET-LCP copolymers as compatibilizers for PET/LCP blends

1996

Copolyesters of poly[ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP), SBH 1:1:2, have been synthesized by the polycondensation, carried out in the melt at temperatures up to 300 degrees C of sebacic acid (S), 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl (B), and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (H) in the presence of PET. The PET-SBH copolyesters have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, etc., and the relationships between properties and preparation conditions are discussed. The copolyesters show a biphasic nature, which is more evident for the products synthesized with a thermal profile comprising relatively lower temperatures (220-…

Recent advances in the development of holey optical fibers based on sulfide glasses

2006

International audience; Microstructured optical fibers as new optical objects have been developed in the recent past years, firstly from silica glass and then from other oxide glasses such as tellurite or different heavy cations oxide glasses. However very few results have been reported concerning non-oxide glasses and more particularly chalcogenide glasses. In a photonic crystal fiber the arrangement of air holes along the transverse section of the fiber around a solid glassy core leads to unique optical properties, such as for example broadband single-mode guidance, adjustable dispersion, nonlinear properties. Since the effective modal area is adjustable thanks to geometrical parameters, …

P046 Vitamin D decreases PDIA3 and prevents the enhanced migration of fibroblasts from stricturing Crohn’s disease

2020

Abstract Background Fibrosis is a common complication in Crohn’s disease (CD) patients and fibroblasts play an important role in the fibrogenic process. Low vitamin D (VD) levels and a defective VD-signalling pathway have been reported in CD. VD signals through both vitamin D receptor (VDR) and protein disulfide-isomerase A3 (PDIA3) and we have previously demonstrated that VDR protein levels are reduced in fibroblasts isolated from CD patients and that VD increased VDR expression in these cells (A-2080; ECCO 2019). We aim to analyse here the effect of VD on both PDIA3 protein levels and migration in CD fibroblasts. Methods We used intestinal fibroblasts isolated from surgical resections of …
