Measurement of the b → τ-ν̄τX branching ratio

1993

The definitions of “anthropology” found in various dictionaries cover a whole range of terms and in this section we provide an overview of all its connotations. In this way a variety of reflections about the essence of man become possible, for instance as : summit of creation; source of his own values; specific biological reality; intelligence (but what is this, really?); knowing subject or object of knowledge; social being and product of a culture. Following these lines of thought one realises that all these preoccupations have already been taken up, or at least touched upon, by communication theory.

Durée et catastrophe. Régimes temporels et conflits écologiques à l’heure de la globalisation de l’environnement

2020

Elaborating from anthropology of nature and semiotic of culture, the work aims to illustrate that every ecological crisis is, also, a temporality crisis. In order to do so, it compares different visions of future – and, therefore, of the present of the enunciator – that shape international environmental crisis between ’60 and ’70. The first, insisting on risks, comes from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, advising about the Limits to Growth; the second, insisting on risk normalization, comes from UN first Earth Summit; both discourses are registered in reports published in 1972 and read worldwide. The analysis shows that while the MIT report successfully points the temporality crisis r…

Il ruolo del Consiglio europeo nella Brexit

2019

The European Council has been playing a leading role in Brexit procedure. This article aims at showing how this role does not simply reflect the powers explicitly assigned to the European Council under Article 50 TEU. Two more questions are addressed: In performing its role h…

Ever since the beginning of international climate conservation politics there has been variation across nations in political traditions in debating the climate issue. Political decision-makers have interpreted the scientific findings on global warming with different emphases, thereby giving rise to variation in views on preferred national or international solutions. These tensions first became evident before and during the Earth Summit of the United Nations in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, when the United Nations Climate Change Convention was prepared and eventually signed. This article discusses the historical background of international climate conservation politics and illustrates the tensions…

European Association for the Study of the Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma summit 2014: old questions, new (or few) answers?

2014

, the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) organized the 2014 EASL HCC Summit in Geneva, Switzerland from 13 to 16 February 2014. A number of interesting issues on the management of hepatocellular carci-noma (HCC) have been addressed during this meeting. However, our feeling is that only few answers have been given to those questions, mainly because of the still poor knowledge of the molecular basis and the natural history of HCC.HCC is a complex disease, associated in the wide majority of cases with under -lying cirrhosis. In addition, HCC pre-sents with high heterogeneity

Measuring the Sustainability of Transportation Infrastructures Through Comparative Life Cycle and Energy Assessment

2020

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015. It addresses people, planet and prosperity needs and particularly focuses on transport systems that must be 1) Sustainable. 2) Quality and resilient. 3) Safe. 4) Affordable and accessible. The Research Project PRIN USR342 focuses on similar concepts and the expected outputs are 3 paving solutions (made with recycled materials and sustainable technologies), 4 sets of modules (software), and 2 platforms. In this view, the objective of this study is the identification of the best pavement technology in terms of energy and environmental performance. To this aim a LC…
