Threshold expansion of the sunset diagram

1999

By use of the threshold expansion we develop an algorithm for analytical evaluation, within dimensional regularization, of arbitrary terms in the expansion of the (two-loop) sunset diagram with general masses m_1, m_2 and m_3 near its threshold, i.e. in any given order in the difference between the external momentum squared and its threshold value, (m_1+m_2+m_3)^2. In particular, this algorithm includes an explicit recurrence procedure to analytically calculate sunset diagrams with arbitrary integer powers of propagators at the threshold.

Quantum Effects in Black Holes from the Schwarzschild Black String?

2007

The holographic conjecture for black holes localized on a 3-brane in Randall-Sundrum braneworld models RS2 predicts the existence of a classical 5D time dependent solution dual to a 4D evaporating black hole. After briefly reviewing recent criticism and presenting some difficulties in the holographic interpretation of the Gregory-Laflamme instability, we simulate some basic features of such a solution by studying null geodesics of the Schwarzschild black string, in particular those propagating nontrivially in the bulk, and using holographic arguments.

A walk on sunset boulevard

2016

A walk on sunset boulevard can teach us about transcendental functions associated to Feynman diagrams. On this guided tour we will see multiple polylogarithms, differential equations and elliptic curves. A highlight of the tour will be the generalisation of the polylogarithms to the elliptic setting and the all-order solution for the sunset integral in the equal mass case.

Work-life balance during the COVID-19 outbreak: the case of Latvia

2020

This paper aims to shed light on work-life balance in Latvia during the state of emergency The COVID-19 outbreak has led many governments to introduce lockdowns While imposed restrictions may help to contain the spread of the virus, they may also result in substantial damage to population well-being The COVID-19 outbreak in Latvia demonstrates the extent and ways in which socio-demographics factors have determined different patterns of behaviour, attitudes, employment changes and harmonised work and life balance The study describes the chronological development of COVID-19 in the country It describes labour migration to and from Latvia before the COVID-19 outbreak It provides geographical f…

In search of a theoretical framework of factors influencing work and life balance

2021

Work and life balance (WLB) has gained noticeable attention amid the pandemic. Even before the outbreak of COVID-19, the increasing pace of life encouraged the investigation of individual and organisational aspects of WLB. Physically and mentally healthy people help society develop and grow. Health issues caused by work and life imbalance lead to dissatisfaction with both work and life, which, in turn, leads to higher stress and stress-related illnesses, for instance, burnout. From the organisational point of view, WLB is a factor in analysing the efficiency of an enterprise. The consequences of a work-life imbalance are intentional or unintentional absence, high employee turnover, low prod…

Translational adaptation to heat stress is mediated by RNA 5‐methylcytosine in Caenorhabditis elegans

2021

Abstract Methylation of carbon‐5 of cytosines (m5C) is a post‐transcriptional nucleotide modification of RNA found in all kingdoms of life. While individual m5C‐methyltransferases have been studied, the impact of the global cytosine‐5 methylome on development, homeostasis and stress remains unknown. Here, using Caenorhabditis elegans, we generated the first organism devoid of m5C in RNA, demonstrating that this modification is non‐essential. Using this genetic tool, we determine the localisation and enzymatic specificity of m5C sites in the RNome in vivo. We find that NSUN‐4 acts as a dual rRNA and tRNA methyltransferase in C. elegans mitochondria. In agreement with leucine and proline bein…

Citizen energy lost in sustainability transitions: Knowledge co-production in a complex governance context

2023

Funding Information: In the European Union, the Clean Energy Package with revised directives has created a framework for the member states to provide stronger legislative support for citizen engagement in community-level energy actions [10,11]. These regulatory reforms are geared towards transforming the operational conditions for active, efficient and inclusive citizen-led energy communities to emerge in diverse contexts [12–14]. More specifically, the market access rules and the information supporting the distributed energy producers have been improved [10]. The legitimacy of the EU policies on renewable energy, energy efficiency and market reforms is considered to be improved by enabling…

Assessing crop coefficients of sunflower and canola using two-source energy balance and thermal radiometry

2014

Abstract A new technique for the local adjustments in crop coefficients is presented. This is an alternative to conventional lysimeter measurements traditionally used for improved irrigation scheduling. The method is based on the combination of a two-source energy balance model and local measurements of radiometric temperatures. Two experimental campaigns were carried out on sunflower and canola in a cropland area located in Barrax, Albacete, in the summer of 2011 and spring of 2012, respectively. Radiometric temperatures of soil and canopy were collected, together with biophysical and meteorological variables. Combining all these data in a two-source energy balance model allowed separation…

Musician angels. Study of the narrative evangelic iconographic types

2012

The aim of this article is to offer a new way to analyse musical images trough the study of iconographic types and their literary and iconic sources. More precisely, this paper focuses on the apparition of the musician angel in the narrative evangelic context and the reasons for its inclusion in the various n…

A new model for estimating diffuse solar radiation in Italy from clearness index and minimum air mass

1990

The aim of this study is: (a) to propose a new simple model for estimating the monthly mean daily diffuse radiation D, MJ m−2 day−1, using as input only the clearness index Kt and minimum air mass and (b) to develop a map of diffuse solar radiation incident on a horizontal surface in Italy. The correlation herein suggested is D = 5.6 Kt−0.55 (sin hn)1.58 where hn is the noon altitude of the sun on the 15th of the month, in degrees, and Kt = G/H0; G and H0 are the monthly mean daily global and extraterrestrial solar radiation respectively. This equation is applied to Adrano, Palermo, Macerata and Genova stations, provided with measured data of global and diffuse radiation, and the relative c…
