An integrated framework for risk profiling of breast cancer patients following surgery.
2006
Objective: An integrated decision support framework is proposed for clinical oncologists making prognostic assessments of patients with operable breast cancer. The framework may be delivered over a web interface. It comprises a triangulation of prognostic modelling, visualisation of historical patient data and an explanatory facility to interpret risk group assignments using empirically derived Boolean rules expressed directly in clinical terms. Methods and materials: The prognostic inferences in the interface are validated in a multicentre longitudinal cohort study by modelling retrospective data from 917 patients recruited at Christie Hospital, Wilmslow between 1983 and 1989 and predictin…
Bayesian joint modeling of bivariate longitudinal and competing risks data: An application to study patient-ventilator asynchronies in critical care …
2017
Mechanical ventilation is a common procedure of life support in intensive care. Patient-ventilator asynchronies (PVAs) occur when the timing of the ventilator cycle is not simultaneous with the timing of the patient respiratory cycle. The association between severity markers and the events death or alive discharge has been acknowledged before, however, little is known about the addition of PVAs data to the analyses. We used an index of asynchronies (AI) to measure PVAs and the SOFA (sequential organ failure assessment) score to assess overall severity. To investigate the added value of including the AI, we propose a Bayesian joint model of bivariate longitudinal and competing risks data. Th…
Risk Analysis of a Fuel Storage Terminal Using HAZOP and FTA
2017
[EN] The size and complexity of industrial chemical plants, together with the nature of the products handled, means that an analysis and control of the risks involved is required. This paper presents a methodology for risk analysis in chemical and allied industries that is based on a combination of HAZard and OPerability analysis (HAZOP) and a quantitative analysis of the most relevant risks through the development of fault trees, fault tree analysis (FTA). Results from FTA allow prioritizing the preventive and corrective measures to minimize the probability of failure. An analysis of a case study is performed; it consists in the terminal for unloading chemical and petroleum products, and t…
Otthon és haza : tanulmányok a romániai magyar kisebbség történetéről
2013
The goal of this thesis is to show, through the history of the Hungarian minority in Romania, what drives the self-organisation of a minority community, and to what degree, in what respect is this historical, social phenomenon specific. Beside the theoretical introduction, the thesis consists of eight chapters, organised into three larger blocks. The structure reflects a methodological distinction as well: in the beginning, some case studies are offered; these are followed by presentations of institutional and conceptual history; in conclusion, an interpretive model is offered. The first part, entitled Cleavages, contains three case studies. These present in detail the major historical turn…
On the moving load problem in beam structures equipped with tuned mass dampers
2017
This paper proposes an original and efficient approach to the moving load problem on Euler–Bernoulli beams, with Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic translational supports and rotational joints, and in addition, equipped with Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic tuned mass dampers (TMDs). While supports are taken as representative of external devices such as grounded dampers or in-span supports with flexibility and damping, the rotational joints may model rotational dampers or connections with flexibility and damping arising from imperfections or damage. The theory of generalised functions is used to treat the discontinuities of the response variables, which involves deriving exact complex eigenvalues and eigen…
IL SISMA VULCANICO COME CONDIZIONE DI RISCHIO PSICOSOCIALE. UNO STUDIO SULLA VALENZA EVOLUTIVA DELLE ESERCITAZIONI ANTISISMICHE A SCUOLA
2009
This study is contextualized as a contribution to the literature of the area tackling forms of psychosocial risks (Rutter, 1990); in detail, here it is focalized the relationship between the treatment, made up of antiseismic evacuation drills, and the development of those processes functional to an adequate adaptive management of a seismic event. The research contribution has been carried out within an experimental group made up of 50 children, whom the treatment was addressed to, represented by antiseismic evacuation drills, and by a control group, superimposable on the experimental one, by gender and age variables, but not benefiting from the treatment. Through the use of a questionnaire,…
The effect of support schemes on Photovoltaic installed capacity in Europe: a WDEA-STATIS analysis
2014
The European Union (EU) has been committed to promoting Renewable Energy Sources (RES) since 1985, focusing its attention on the financial coordination needed to support the sector, and the possibility of harmonizing support scheme systems. Starting from this assumption, the aim of this study is to provide, by means of STATIS together with windows DEA analysis, a response about which kind of support schemes have worked best in a sample of 11 EU Member States over the last 15 years in terms of Photovoltaic overall installed capacity, the most expensive RES technology.
IMAGE PROCESSING, SEGMENTATION AND MACHINE LEARNING MODELS TO CLASSIFY AND DELINEATE TUMOR VOLUMES TO SUPPORT MEDICAL DECISION
2020
Techniques for processing and analysing images and medical data have become the main’s translational applications and researches in clinical and pre-clinical environments. The advantages of these techniques are the improvement of diagnosis accuracy and the assessment of treatment response by means of quantitative biomarkers in an efficient way. In the era of the personalized medicine, an early and efficacy prediction of therapy response in patients is still a critical issue. In radiation therapy planning, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides high quality detailed images and excellent soft-tissue contrast, while Computerized Tomography (CT) images provides attenuation maps and very good…
