ZnO nanoparticles embedded in UVM-7-like mesoporous silica materials: Synthesis and characterization

Abstract ZnO nanodomains embedded in bimodal mesoporous silica (UVM-7) materials with high Zn content (4≤Si/Zn≤30) have been synthesized by an one-pot surfactant-assisted procedure from a hydro alcoholic medium using a cationic surfactant (CTMABr=cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) as structural directing agent, and starting from molecular atrane complexes of Zn and Si as hydrolytic inorganic precursors. This chemical procedure allows optimizing the dispersion of the ZnO particles in the silica walls. The bimodal mesoporous nature of the final high surface area nano-sized materials is confirmed by XRD, TEM, and N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms. The small intra-particle mesopore system is due …

Polymeric Thin Films for Organic Electronics: Properties and Adaptive Structures

This review deals with the correlation between morphology, structure and performance of organic electronic devices including thin film transistors and solar cells. In particular, we report on solution processed devices going into the role of the 3D supramolecular organization in determining their electronic properties. A selection of case studies from recent literature are reviewed, relying on solution methods for organic thin-film deposition which allow fine control of the supramolecular aggregation of polymers confined at surfaces in nanoscopic layers. Crystallinity of block copolymer controlled by cyclodextrin

We report a differential scanning calorimetry study to investigate the effect of cyclodextrins (CD) on the crystallinity of a copolymer. Tetronics was selected as copolymer with star-like shape formed by four polyethylene oxide flanked by four polypropylene oxide blocks linked to ethylenediamine central group. The use of CD with different cavity size was exploited for a block selective inclusion. A model for supramolecular association was considered for a quantitative description of the enthalpy data. Trichlorofluoromethane was once a promising and versatile applicable chlorofluorocarbon. Unaware of its ozone-depleting character, for a long time it was globally applied as propellant and refrigerant and thus led to significant thinning of the ozone layer and contributed to the formation of the so-called ozone hole. A modular approach towards functional supramolecular aggregates - subtle structural differences inducing liquid crystallinity.

2016

Herein we report an efficient modular approach to supramolecular functional materials. Hierarchical self-assembly of azopyridine derivatives and hydrogen-bond donors yielded discotic assemblies. Subtle differences in the core units introduced mesomorphic behaviour and fast photo-response of the liquid crystals based on phloroglucinol. The presented results prove the benefits of a modular methodology towards highly responsive materials with tailor-made properties.
